Buyer’s remorse 4 days after surgery

Recommended Posts

Greetings,
Guess I’m looking for encouragement. I’m constantly feeling nauseous. Take 4 mg of ondansatron every 6 hours and omeprozol daily. Getting enough fluids, but can’t do the Protein. Doing lots of walking, too.
Any ideas? When will the nausea get better?
Thanks!

I have days where I feel the same way except I have had a rough time of recovery. I spent 3 and 1/2 days in the hospital this week because I developed a stricture. I had my bypass on March 12th. The hardest part will be to find your new "normal" and getting used to it. Just take it one day at a time. Nausea is very unpleasant and because it is your body screaming about something it wants/needs and interpreting the sign is challenging. I think I found that I wasn't eating enough and my new "hunger pang" is nausea. I am just 1 week shy of 2 months post-op and weight loss has been agonizingly slow for me.

Wishing you the best! Please know you have people supporting you and here for you. I would rather pain over nausea any day so I feel for you. I had the sleeve surgery on Tuesday and I feel like each day there is more progress to my new normal. Hang in there!

You've got to give yourself time. You just had major surgery. Some people bounce back, for others it's a slower recovey. I'm sorry you have all the nausea. That makes the day soooo long. You might try some peppermint herbal tea, that helps a lot with nausea and would count as part of your liquids. It will get better, the first week is tough.

You're at one of the hardest points in your journey. Know that every single one of us who've already had WLS has been there too. Some had an easier time than others, but we've all been there. You're going to make it through this, just like the rest of us. Good luck. You are not alone.

Trust the process, it gets so much easier! Just take it one day at a time, I’m 10 days post op and everyday has been easier than the last. In regards to the Protein I’m still struggling as well but I try to drink a little more than the day before and I’m almost up to the 60 gs I’m supposed to get daily.

For the first couple weeks after surgery, your body is in a major heal mode. Many people find it difficult to meet their daily Protein and Fluid requirements during this time. Just keep trying and you should be able to get there.

My hospital discharge instructions for when to contact the physician read:

Persistent nausea or vomiting greater than 6 hours.

This is just what worked for me but I stopped taking all of the strong meds yesterday ( I was sleeved on Tuesday 5/1) and I felt a lot better. I was having horrible nausea but after I stopped those meds and just used liquid Tylenol I felt so much better. Might be worth a shot.

Hi Gundy,
I am sorry you are so nauseous. Like others have said you had MAJOR surgery just a few days ago. Give yourself some time. I use peppermint essential oils for my nausea. You rub it on your stomach and don’t have to drink it. Don’t rub it in your surgery sites but do rub 2 or 3 drops into your stomach. It has helped me a lot. If you would rather use it to make a hot drink only use a drop or two in your Water. It is very strong.
Feel better soon

My surgeon gave me zofran and a nausea patch that you put behind your ear that lasts for three days, I feel bad that not all surgeons don't do that, it really helped. Anesthesia and the heavy duty pain they give you in your IV make me super sick for awhile

Sorey to hear you're feeling so badly right now. I had a ton of nausea and vomitting in the hospital for the first day and a half. I was being rotated through zofran, reglan, and Benadryl until I was discharged (end of 2nd day post op). I was sent home with reglan, which I think I needed for another 2 or 3 days. After the nausea subsided, I felt soooo much better. Are either of the meds you mentioned for nausea? If not, I'd call your surgeon and ask for zofran or reglan - no need to suffer if there's a way around it.

Hopefully you're over the worst of it though!

I'm glad things were better, Have you tried the clear Premier Protein, maybe that thickness in shakes is hard?

Be Well!!

Yes, I tried Premier Protein. I think the sweet flavor when hungry is what is bothering me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
