AngelaZ 10 Posted May 4, 2018 It took me a few days to get the guts to post this because frankly it is TMI, but I am now Day 4 of my bowel movements being all diarrhea. Is that normal or a cause for concern? Thanks and sorry for the topic lol.P.s. What is “dumping”. I have seen that term a few times. Does it have to do with this topic? Thanks! James Marusek 5,244 Posted May 4, 2018 After surgery it is common to experience problems with diarrhea and Constipation. Right after my surgery I became lactose intolerant and any time I drank milk or consumed dairy, my stomach would immediately get upset and then there was diarrhea. That condition resolved itself after a couple months. Some Protein Shakes contain lactose. According to my hospital discharge directions the time to contact the surgeon is when: Persistent diarrhea beyond the first week after discharge or more than 6 diarrhea stools in a day. Diarrhea is normal after surgery.

TexasMommy80 297 Posted May 5, 2018 I developed severe lactose intolerance after my VSG. I had horrible diarrhea and my heart rate would increase. I tried the lactose pills and they helped a bit, but not nearly enough. I now drink muscle milk and use GENEPRO. I know GENEPRO is controversial and I am probably not getting the Protein that they claim (or equivalency), but I wanted to give it a try and see how it goes for me.
