Bariatric haul! What have you bought for your journey or plan to buy?

I had my surgery with them on april26th.

I made Bone Broth ahead of time and froze it into ice cubes.... I add it to the powdered Protein Soups for extra protein.

I also found some small two oz condiment containers with lids that I can put protein powders in for on the go.

I recommend a body pillow and extra pillows for first week... or a recliner.

I made a travel bag in a pouch with those collapsible measuring cups a baby spoon, a cocktail fork, a couple Water flavor pkgs, a 2 oz container of Protein Powder.< br>

Wow I’ve gotten tons of ideas from you guys. Everyone has really good stuff. I like the idea of freezing broth in ice cubes. I also need a food processor but I’m not quite sure about eating mushy meat so I’ll wait on that [emoji28]

I bought a pack of plastic disposable 2 oz containers with lids from Amazon. To help me after surgery I bought a shower puff that has a long handle on it for showering, just in case I’m in too much pain to bend over. Some small toiletries and face wipes for in the hospital so I’m not taking all of my big huge bottles. I did my huge grocery hall last night for the pre-op diet and for the 2 weeks after.

I’m scared of buying too much for my post op Bc if my tastebuds go crazy I won’t know who to give these things to. I’m going to buy very little and just try it and see if I tolerate it. Initially I wanted to stack up and have everything that way I could be prepared.

Guys don’t forget to get a good balancing mouth wash. I’ve read that if your mouth PH changes and it’s likely to even if temporarily that it can cause tooth decay or eat at our enamel and we don’t want that [emoji51]

I love the idea of a shower puff with a handle! My surgery date is May 9....it’s gettying close and I am in full planning mode at this point. Thank goodness for Amazon prime! 😂

I am worried too about my taste preference after surgery. I got my low sodium broth, a couple cans of cream of chicken Soup, Tomato Soup, sugar free popsicles, my recommended Protein powder in 2 flavors, lots of crystal light singles of various flavors, fat free refried Beans, Decaf cold brew tea, decaf coffee k-cups, and low sodium tuna in Water packets. I had to get new chewable Multivitamins since I had the gummies and my surgeon said they are a no-no. Still have to get a protein water and some G2.

That’s a good list.. I got Bariatric Advantage chewable multi but I’m sending it back. They are awful and taste like sweet and low. I love the Vitamins that I take now V2000 by solgar but I’m not sure how soon I can swallow pills.< br>

Wowzers lol i thought I went overboard but you have everyyyuthing. I need to get something to turn meat into purée but I can’t imagine eating meat the consistency of purée. I might add a scoop of unflavored Protein to a jar of baby food but that’s as far as I may go 🤢

Yo-Yo Girl from New York City :)

The only meat i plan to puree is chicken or turkey for "chicken salads" Will do hard boiled eggs like that as well. I can't imagine it any other way. I have had friend do meats in fat free gravy or in with potatoes etc. Doesn't sound appetizing to me.

How many pages is the binder?

A couple hundred I would estimate. I don’t have it here at work, but most sections are at least 30 pages

wow that does sound. cool. I have like a red plastic file envelope, wit a fee things in it from #1,program, only a few sheets so far from program #2, neither deal, with post surgical diets etc. I would, have gotten all that from #1 had they not kicked me to the curb, before my surgical date assignment. And frankly,i pitched most of their crap after what they did to me. All I kept was pages detailing, the differences between sleeve and bypass and the red plastic envelope. And a hearty f.u. to them too.Life is too short to waste any more time on them, I now mourn the hours and hours I Did. I did glean a nice pulmonologist, and,a wonderful, lady cardiologist from the above, but the rest leaves a bitter as gall taste in my mouth.

Hi everyone! My surgery is next week and I am about done with all my pre-op shopping. I have purchased:

  • 3 Different brands of Protein Powder: Delicious Dream French vanilla (24g), Aria Protein in chocolate, Vanilla (both 20g) and Vanilla Cupcake (10g Lower protein for a not so dense shake), and Isopure (25g) in 4 flavors, including unlfavored.
  • Premier Protein RTD (30g) in chocolate, caramel, vanilla, bananas & cream and strawberry.
  • Protein Waters: Protein20 (20g), Premier Protein Clear (15g), and Trimino (7g)
  • 2x Blender bottles
  • Multiple small plates (This was strongly recommended by multiple wls vets!)
  • Multiple small bowls
  • Milk of Magnesia
  • Colace
  • Bariatric Fusion Vitamins
  • calcium chews
  • Benefiber
  • Cheap slippers for in hospital stay (those socks suck)
  • Toilet seat riser (recommended by a soon-to-be sleeved friend on here)
  • Squatty Potty (I hear it works, so I figured why not!)

I didn't have to buy any shake/food equipment since I already had a food scale and the Ninja Inteli-sense system that has a blender/food processor/ spiralizer/ and some other random things (I have yet to use so not sure what they do haha)

And because I am neurotic, I've tested out dozens of recipes over the last few months and built up a little repitoire of bariatric-friendly recipes for me to try post-surgery for each different stage. I'll be making some homemade Bone Broth this week (Dad's a butcher so this comes out really really good!) as well as other quick meals for the first few days post surgery where I probably won't want to cook.

Now that I am reading over this I probably over prepared, but that's type of person I am.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
