TaylorMade4One 105 Posted May 4, 2018 Hello!!Had my EGD on Tuesday my doctor said my hernia was huge and also prescribed me acid reflx medication. She didn't tell me much more and said she's talk more about it at my next appointment. Now I'm thinking which should be adressed first, my haital hernia, gallbladder(so I don't get kidney stones) or my reflux issues? Do I have an ulcer what else did she see and how serious is it?? Ugghh
GassyGurl 428 Posted May 4, 2018 Don't stress too much. There are plenty of people who get at least two of them fixed at a time, and there are people who have all three done. I had a type Ii hiatial hernia and it was fixed with a few stitches. Some Dr's seem to have wonky rules, but let's just hope yours will fix them all at once. UnderTheCaliSun 27 Posted May 4, 2018 I would get them all fixed at once. I just had a mini-bypass with Dr. Illan and he also fixed a hiatal hernia at the same time. I've already had my gallbladder out so that wasn't an issue but it would be so simple to remove it too during the procedure. I'd just ask. 1 TaylorMade4One reacted to this
KimTriesRNY 1,853 Posted May 4, 2018 I had a small hiatal hernia that was repaired during my bypass. Normally if you have an ulcer that shows up on EGD the doctor will discuss that with you. Many times if you have a large hernia it can cause reflux, so that may be why you were prescribed the medication. Unless you have active gallbladder issues it seems unlikely that the surgeon will remove your gall bladder. I have not heard of a gall bladder causing kidney stones. When people lose weight rapidly after WLS they can tend to develop gallstones and need their gallbladder removed if it becomes bothersome or infected. I think this is about 25% of people or so. Let us know what happens! 2 clsumrall and TaylorMade4One reacted to this
Frustr8 7,886 Posted May 4, 2018 They often give you medicine to,prevent gallstones, a bad gallbladder won't give you stones in the kidneys but rapid weight loss could. Hope everything will be okay with you😝 1 TaylorMade4One reacted to this
TaylorMade4One 105 Posted May 4, 2018 Yes, I mean gall stones NOT kidney stones. Hopefully this doesn't push back anything with my surgery date which isn't scheduled yet.
Keitha Andrews 2 Posted May 8, 2018 I had umbilical hernia (again), hiatal hernia repair an RNY all done at the same time. I didn't know either that I had a hiatal hernia until my EGD was done 2 wks pre-op. I did really well with it. 1 clsumrall reacted to this
Patty55 3 Posted May 8, 2018 I had my hiatal hernia repaired along with the bypass. My gallbladder was removed 9 months later when it flared up after 100lbs lost. 1 clsumrall reacted to this
