They are a common problem for people who have weight loss surgery.

If they are Calcium oxalate stones...avoid foods high in oxalates and make sure you're taking your calcium correctly for your situation (talk to your doctor)

Avoid red meat.

Lower the salt in your diet.

Best wishes:)

Thank you! I called my surgeon and he said it was common with the high Protein diet that he has me on. It scares me to think I could have another one!!! I’m cutting out all red meat! And going to try to up my Water intake to 90 oz a day.

I have had kidney stones for years. My Urologist told me that after my surgery I would probably suffer even more. I have both Calcium oxalate and Uric acid stones. I have followed the diet restrictions from my doctor and nothing seems to help. They are in both my kidneys. I have had lithotripsy 6 times in the last 10 yrs. they are going to do it again in 3 weeks. I have one right now that is so large my doc said if it were a diamond I would never want for anything.
I find that a heating pad on my back helps some and a hot shower can help relax you also . Good luck. Just remember to keep drinking Water . The more Fluid you can get in the faster the stone will pass.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
