I started my pre op diet on the 30th and I’ve been doing sooo darn good even lost 6 lbs already! Then tonight after one hell of a day at work my girlfriend left pb&j out on the counter so what do I do? Make my self one since she’s sleeping and can’t yell at me my surgery is on the 7th. I’m so scared I just ruined everything and I want to just puke

Oye. Tons of carbs and sugar in a PB and J...and the whole point of your diet is super carb restriction so your liver can shrink and be safer in surgery. :(

Truthfully? I might actually consider puking for real in that situation.

Not a great choice.

For anyone else considering cheating on pre-op diet....cheat with protien or non starchy veggies. NOT CARBS. Otherwise, you've just shot yourself in the foot.

Better yet...don't cheat.

I know it sucks, but don't sabotage yourself!

Shelby, you'll probably be ok...but for the love of Pete...don't sabotage yourself again.

Surgeons have been known to close you up and refuse to do your surgery if your liver hasn't shrunk.

Not saying this will happen to you....but it's worth doing everything in your power to comply and not mess with this one. This is a real safety concern. Eating PB and J on impulse when you know it's gonna make your liver swell up again...is crazy. It's dangerous and self destructive.

No carbs means no carbs.

I understand being naughty and cheating...everyone eventually does.....but yeesh....your surgery is on the line. No rebellion is worth playing with fire this close to surgery.

You'll probably get away with your indiscretion...but you have no wiggle room left. Zero. Time to be a model patient.

I hope you did end up vomiting. It would have helped protect the space around your liver.

The temptation must have been horrible but I do hope you have not sabotaged your surgery. It'd be a real tragedy to have the surgeon pull out now or up to the op time.

I'm leaning toward the view that you know it wasn't a good choice, you shouldn't do it again, and you'll probably be fine. There is a lot of variation in the pre-op diet programs, though I don't think any of them allow high-carb foods. Still, be good and good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
