Pre-Op Appointment Tomorrow...Feeling a bit Nervous

Recommended Posts

HEY ALL,

I'M NEW TO THIS FORUM, BUT I HAVE MY PRE-OP APPOINTMENT TOMORROW. I'M GETTING SOME PRE-SURGERY JITTERS. I HOPE MY LIVER IS SHRINKING SO I CAN GO ABOUT MY SCHEDULED SURGERY AS PLANNED. ANY TIPS OR WORDS OF ADVICE WOULD BE NICE.

keep the reasons you are doing this in the front of your mind. It is worth it

accept that you will be nervous and unsure as you get closer but that is normal and ok

Keep reading around the site and one thing you will see over and over is that people are glad they had the surgery, it's the best thing they've ever done for themselves, and they wish they'd done it sooner. Search for and look at the before/after pictures for some real inspiration.

Also keep in mind that it's a very safe surgery, very low complication rates, and very effective in terms of the weight loss goal. Whether you maintain that long-term is up to you--this isn't magic, but it's a wonderful tool to help along the way.

Best of luck!

Yes. My mother completed this surgery and her results were amazing. I see all the weight my mother had lost and I guess u don’t want to disappoint her or myself. I think the only change for me that’s gonna be hard is working out on a reg basis. I’m okay working out a couple of times a week, but I know this lifestyle change is gonna require more output for better results.

i think you will be surprised that 3 days a week may work very well for you. the type of exercise you do may change. Some amount of weight lifting to tone the you would be recommended but every other day is fine.

You also may feel different about working out post op. I always hated the gym and felt like crap after a workout.

Now post op I have so much more energy and feel great after a workout and i just buzz all day after i leave the gym.

I never do more than 2 days in a row now. Got a little crazy at the start and was doing 6 days a week but muscles were not recovering. so now its 2 on 1 off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
