I am having gastric bypass surgery tomorrow and am feeling really good about it. Only slightly nervous at the moment, though I’m sure that will changed by morning. I’d definitely appreciate any well wishes!

As of this morning, I weighed 270—down 92 pounds from my first consult with the surgeon in September. Though I at first lamented the 6-month nutrition requirement, I am ultimately so glad to have had this period to prepare. I have made so much progress physically and emotionally since then and feel very ready for the surgery.

I really appreciate all of the support on these forums and feel like I know what to expect in the next few weeks because so many have shared their experiences here. Thank you! And much luck to everyone with surgeries coming up!

Oh thank you! That is so funny—I live just down the road from Pimlico! Though I have never been to Preakness. But I love the flowers. Good luck to you as well!

Happy to report that everything went well with surgery! I did struggle a little bit in recovery with low blood pressures and they were concerned I might be bleeding internally, but things perked back up after a few hours and IV fluids. Very little pain fortunately. Walking is very helpful. I’ve started my Fluid challenge and am doing really well getting the fluids down. Need to work on breathing into the spirometer; that has been tougher. All in all I’m feeling very good. Hope everyone else who is having surgery now is feeling the same!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
