Anyone else have this problem?

Recommended Posts

I know a lot of us have had the “wow my tail bone hurts” moments post op. Mine has bothered me for a couple months now, but seems to be getting a little better. Recently though I am dealing with a new feeling from my weight loss that is bothering the crap out of me. Every time I ride in a car now I can feel my spine pressing up against the cars seat, and it’s a super uncomfortable feeling. I find myself constantly shifting to try to get the feeling to go away, but it usually doesn’t help. I was driving around the other day squirming in my seat and it got me wondering if I am the only one with this issue as I don’t recall seeing complaints about it in here before.

Mine is like that all the time. I use the VA system so they will only focus on one thing at a time and right now it is the arthritis in my shoulders. I wish I could tell you that the tailbone thing gets better, it doesn't (at least not for me). It hurts to ride in the car, it hurts to sit in my chair at night, it hurts when I sit in a chair at work. the only thing that seems to help is if I lie down. Good luck to you, I hope you can get the relief that I am currently unable to get.

There was a period of 6 months to a year where this really bothered me. I bought a gel cushion for the car seat and that helped.

I have that problem. It hurts til I use BioFreeze. Well for my spine. Haven't found any relief for my tailbone unless I just lay down.

It's weird because every time I sit down, it feels like I'm sitting on something then I reach underneath myself and nothing's there...

You need to readjust your posture! We’ve developed a way to sit based on our body shape and as it changes we need to adjust. My Physical Therapist worked on this with me. You need to reclaim the curvature of the lumbar spine and basically sit on the backs of your thighs (your “sitz” bones as my yoga teacher says) instead of your tailbone. Good posture doesn’t involve sitting on the tailbone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
