I've been all over this forum and can't find anything about how you feel emotionally after surgery. I felt great at the hospital. Now that I'm home, I feel like my hormones are out of whack! I cried when I asked my mother for some Mirilax. I cried when I asked the pharmacist to fill my prescription. It's crazy! Does anyone else have or has had these baby blues?

It will all be worth it. Don't give up!

Lots of folks report weird mood swings after surgery.

My doctor said at least once a month someone is in tears with buyers remorse right after surgery...while still in the hospital! He said it's normal to have some emotional ups and downs...and that by a couple months out the vast majority of people have no regrets and feel much more like themselves.

But yep...I know what you're talking about. And it very well could be affected by hormone swings.

Funny you should say that. I felt a little blue today when I was watching a Popeye’s commercial. I have no idea why I felt blue, since I have never had Popeye’s and don’t even like fried chicken.

I have also had a few moments of regret (did I make the right decision) and also feeling overwhelmed with all the new things I have to learn. But they are just moments here and there, and I tell myself it will be worth it. And I believe it will.

Sounds like you needed to cry a little and I totally understand. It was probably a relief/release to do so!

I wouldn't say relief. It is painful to cry. But I talked to my sister-in-law last night. She said she had the hormonal crying, too. Hers went away in a week or so. I have no buyers regrets. I cry at everything right now. Yes, I'm in a lot of pain since the only med I can take is children's Tylenol. But just crying out of the blue. I know now its normal. I'm just surprised that I've not seen it on the forums before.

As your fat melts into ketosis hormones and other chemicals get released. One OP said it was like puberty, pregnancy and menopause All in one. But no one suddenly notices you're cute and asks you out, there is no cuddly baby, no body asks your opinion because they think you're wise. The only real(?) benefit you gain is that you get so thon your clothes fall off and you fit in a brand-new wardrobe.😝👕👖👚👗👙😎

So I just wanted to say that my emotions have died down quite a bit. Thank you to everyone who helped me realize I wasn't going insane.

I'm glad I read this--I stumbled upon the group because I was feeling the blues yesterday (my surgery was Tuesday). Just reading others stories made me feel better since its nice not to be alone on this journey. Feel free to reach out to me directly in a down turn since I could be in the same spot!

Lol, yes. I get that it will probably be a roller coaster. I'm feeling upset again today. But I know it will pass.

@GalNOLA This forum has helped me a lot! My nutritionist told me about it. I'm so glad I joined. I found it amazing at the lack of information my doctor gave me. I've only lost 5 pounds since surgery on Monday, April 30. I kinda expected more. Have you weighed in yet?

I go in Tuesday for my post op appt and weigh in. I have heard if you weigh yourself too early you will still have Fluid left from when you were in the hospital. I have already gotten so much from this group. Keep in touch about your progress!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
