WL Stall/Weight gain

Recommended Posts

I'm at a stall. I've been between 170 and 175 for the past couple of months, which my DR. told me to expect after I dropped the amount of weight I did. The past week or so, I've been seeing that my weight is slowing creeping up to the 180 mark and I'm scared to death. I've been monitoring my carb and sugar intake and I've gone back on the Protein Shakes for Breakfast or lunch. I'm extremely worried that i'm going to gain back all the weight. I've seen myself falling into past habits (binge eating disorder and weighing myself every day up to 3x a day), eating sugary food (candy) and not getting enough liquids in. It probably isn't helping that i'm trying to complete my degree for college and I signed myself up for 6 summer classes to finish in the next 4 months. I need help. I tried talking to my husband, and though he is sympathetic, his advice is stop eating bad food, which is easier said than done. If anybody has gone through something similar, i'd love to hear how you overcome this stall.

It sounds like you may need counseling to help deal with your eating disorder. Maybe you could at least check with your surgeons office to see if they could recommend one that deals with eating disorders?

If you had the traditional DS then I wouldn't recommend shakes for meals. Eat Protein and drink liquids. When I want to lose I eat more protein and fewer carbs ( of course no candy goes without saying ;(). I'd eat a big steak for lunch or dinner to satisfy me. Or a triple with cheese from Wendy's (not the bun) for a snack. The beauty of the DS is we eat. A lot. Most of us gave up Protein Shakes as soon as we could eat enough. Have a lot of nuts, cheeses and cold cuts on hand for Snacks.

And please put the scale away. Many people weigh weekly. I weigh every few months. Certainly not daily. You need to give yourself a break with that. :)

Many people also end their large weight loss period at about 18 mos. postop. Often there is a small bounce back as well so that isn't unexpected. However, if you feel that's something you're contributing to then it is something you should probably speak to a counselor about. BTW, I'm also a binge eater.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
