I have Cigna Open Access Plus and was wondering if anyone could tell me how difficult it was to get approval. I have done the psych eval, have the pcp referral, have the bmi, and am currently doing the 90 nutrition. Was there anything else that you had to do for approval? My pcp will give me health clearance when it gets closer also. Any info would be great to help lower the anxiety.:(

Thanks

I have Cigna PPO I believe.

I had to attend a seminar, have an initial consultation, general blood work, a manometry, endoscopy, ekg, meet with a physical therapist, meet with a nutritionist and do 3 months of weight management. I also had to attend an informational Q&A.

I know for sure my insurance required the 3 months of observed weight management but the other things might have been a requirement for my surgeon.

Cigna took about four weeks to approve me.

I have really bad anxiety too! I have been going through this process for about eight months and the only way I have gotten through it is to take it one day at a time and one step at a time. It will all be worth it!

My surgeon office did the blood work. According to the surgeon office I only need to complete the 90 which I have a little less than 60 days left and get my pcp health release for surgery. I already have the psych eval, pcp referral, comorbidity and BMI for the surgery completed

I had Cigna and it was the same. They approved me in less than 24 hours.

I have a Cigna plan. Once my requirements were met my approval was back in two business days. According to my surgeon there are much worse insurance carriers to deal with.

What requirements did you have?

I had a 90 day supervised diet, had to see a psychiatrist, have a heart test and a letter from my PCP. I am not sure if the heart test was my surgeons qualification or insurance, but I am really healthy other than severe osteoarthritis and being chunky. [emoji3]

I am in my 90 day diet, I have my psych eval complete, my pcp has done the referral letter and will do the health release in June. I think I have everything complete for insurance minus the 90 day of which I still have 60 days left... 😁

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
