Travel diet after surgery

Recommended Posts

I travel for my job, and am having an RNY in July. I'm worried about how/what I will eat when on the road. Not all my hotels will have refrigerators and microwaves. Anyone else a road warrior with suggestions?

I travel a lot for my job too and had to learn how to survive. It’s really hard when I go out with clients and don’t drink and barely eat!!

When out to dinner with a group I always order something that has grilled chicken I can eat. Last week I ordered chicken fajitas and just opened the tortilla and ate the chicken.
Also, every time I get to a new city I’ll Uber to a cvs or grocery store and get a box of Protein Bars. I do the Atkins snack bars when in a pinch. I’ve also learned that restaurants can be really accommodating! If you need to sub in a veggie for a starch most of them are happy to do it!

My favorite trick? I have a client contact who likes to DRINK! And he makes it really uncomfortable for anyone who doesn’t. In this situation I’ve learned to volunteer to order the drinks and ask the bar tender to give me iced tea served in a high ball glass... my boss finally figured me out but no one else!

Hope this helps! Being the only one on a strict diet can suck, hang in there!

I wondered this same thing too because I wanted to go visit my mother but maybe I should just let her visit me instead.

I traveled with a juicer for three years all over the county, then I traveled with a road bike. Traveling post opp will be no big deal. Fluids and soft food. Rest is also important. I’m five weeks post and just did a five day work trip. Don’t forget to eat every two hours. Your surgeon should have issued you a card, so you can bring food and drinks on the plane.
Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
