Gas pains after surgery

Recommended Posts

This may seem extreme, but when I was in the hospital, I never had gas pains as long as I was in the recliner. So today, I went and bought a reclining sofa! Let's hope this helps!!!!

Hope that helps you! I've sleeping upright in my bed too. I'm hoping this is just something that will pass over time.

I take gas-x chewable extra strength. I take 2 tablets every 12 hours and haven’t had gas since and I’m only 5 days post op. Walking or just moving in general helps a lot. It gets easier. Day 2 and 3 I’ve only downs a bottle of Water and a Protein Shake. Day 4 and 5 I got 2 Protein Shakes and 2 bottles of water. Just sip it over time. I sometimes have to put it back in the fridge and take a break. It takes me at least 2 hours to finish one but I’m getting 64 grams of Protein a day. My fluids I haven’t quite hit yet. I only get about 40 out of 64. But any progress is better than no progress.

It looks like we had surgery on the same day, April 25! I've been walking and eating Gas-X but wanted to know how long it lasts.

I had surgery April 25th as well and the walking has definitely helped.

Its crazy how the gas doesn't settle when you're upright

That's really good! I'm at day 6 and only doing half of what you are! I've also been taking Gas-X chewables. I take 1 after my shake and 1 before bed, but the gas is still a problem. Maybe I should try 2 every 12 hrs as well.

Thanks I do this too my dr told me today I will be admitted back into the hospital on 5/3 if y intake does not increase

walk walk walk. You will lose the gas. The bloated feeling goes down and you will be able to drink more. Just keep walking and drinking and everything will fall into place.

I was sleeved on 4/30. So this is day 3. Tons of gas that has worked up into my shoulders and jaw. I walk at least every hour, usually every 30 minutes. I do fine with watered down juices, but the Protein is hard! Just keep drinking past the discomfort of the gas. We can do this!

I had my sleeve on 4/30 too. Having much more of a difficult time than I anticipated but I can do this. I think I am overdosing in Gas Ex tho. Just when I get the gas away, I take a sip of anything and boom - the pressure is back.

Walking was the only thing that eliminated my gas pains.

Hope everyone's gas issue has been resolved! At day 9 some of that gas pressure started to disappear. I'm on soft food now and haven't had much issues with gas. A little struggle getting in my required Protein and Water, but its gotten better. I'm now getting in a little more than half.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
