I got my surgery on the 16th, and I am about in puréed foods. I am doing well on everything and I don’t eat anything bad, but every night for the past few nights I have been feeling sick like I am going to throw up. Is it because maybe I’m not getting enough Water or Protein? Or something else? I hate feeling like this. Some guidance would be appreciated!:)

Speaking for myself, I know that I get bouts of nausea if I am dehydrated. Interestingly enough, this didn't happen pre-surgery. Are you making certain to get your 64oz of liquid in a day?

yeah i get nausea, but it is probably because you stomach is sensitive to everything in the environment now. so from stress to lack of liquids to fatty food and even smells. so start with the diet and cut everything and start adding stuff 1 at a time. You also have to remember that we all develop an ulcer that takes sometime to heal, so ask you surgeon for some omeprazole or some ranitidine for the time being. Im out of it now and trust me it was rough so do not try your luck eating stuff you did before because it will just not cut it.

I got nauseas when my stomach is empty or when I am overly full. I’ve learned to mostly avoid the overfull feeling by slowing down when I eat. He empty stomach issue is harder, because I don’t want to constantly be eating. Thankfully after a couple of weeks the empty stomach nausea faded so now it’s just a dull ache.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
