Seems like lots more people getting the sleeve now. Doing my research. Band has problems with slippage but not as invasive, reversible and can be adjusted for years and lower price. Also seems like similar weight loss. Sleeve more invasive, more initial cost but less after cost. What else?

Kaiser won’t even do bands anymore! They only fix and reverse them, and change to a sleeve or RNY. I’m not sure why anyone would get a band at this point, with how many issues people have had with them, and the weight loss usually isn’t as much as the other options.

If you find a surgeon willing to put a lap band in you, you probably have a bad surgeon.

Only in rare cases are they done anymore

Didn’t think any surgeons put bands in anymore.

My surgeon won’t even do the band anymore because of the risks and potential to revise it. Most insurances (if your insurance covers it) will only pay for one surgery.

The Sleeve is better because the procedure involves the removal of stomach tissue that regulates hormones that signal hunger. It does not just reduce your stomach. Your appetite is reduced. You are not HUNGRY.

The sleeve has a better long term success rate. You won't want to reverse it.

Good luck.

The only thing I hear about bands nowadays is from the people who had them and are now getting the sleeve or rarely a bypass. Work for awhile but everyone in my groups had gained it all back or had terrible experiences with them. My clinic does 98% sleeves

I had a band lost 50% of my excess body weight but it was still dieting to get that... i kept having problems finally went to a different surgeon and after 10 years I converted to the sleeve last Thursday. I’ve already lost 25lbs with the prediet and after surgery. I only lost a total of 50 in a year into the Lapband . And over the last 9 I’ve gained it all back .

Oooh this is my first post and very apt. I have a band and am getting rid of it. I have spent 10yrs vomiting and with reflux. Don't do it. My weight is back up because healthy food doesn't go down...but junk is NO problem.

I am now trying to decide between the sleeve and RNY. Will ask more questions but am leaning towards RNY.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
