NYJenn 1,463 Posted April 29, 2018 So I contacted my insurance (excellus BCBS) and asked them about coverage. The rep emailed me a copy of my policy and told me to go over it with my PCP. I have an appt with her on Thursday. My question is, once I go through the document with my doctor, To see if I meet the criteria (which I’m assuming I will) what next? Submit the request to insurance? Will my doctor know? Age 37, Mom of 2 awesome boys HW-288 lbs Started journey 4/19/
porkytits 5 Posted April 29, 2018 If you are covered, your primary doc would most likely then refer you to a surgeon and then you’d go from there depending on what your insurance requires.
NYJenn 1,463 Posted April 30, 2018 My PCP has already written a referral to my surgeon. I have already started the process, I feel like I’m doing things way out of order [emoji23]Age 37, Mom of 2 awesome boys Starting weight- 288 lbs Seminar 4/19/18 1st nutrition appt 4/27/18Physical 4/30/

NYJenn 1,463 Posted May 6, 2018 Met with my PCP in Thursday, she assured me that I meet all the criteria. I’m going to call my insurance back tomorrow morning and discuss specific coverage now. TaylorMade4One 105 Posted May 7, 2018 I would say review your insurance to determine how long you have to wait in order to be submitted for pre certification. Review all costs and test you may be required to get such as EGD, stress test, sleep test. I have a high deductible plan and WISHED someone broke down the costs to me. I'm a single mother on a budget and my surgeon's office calls me like "ok, your scheduled next week for your EDG wich may cost $2600 (estimate). Uggghh that sent me over the edge.
