Long Term Vitamin Requirement?

Recommended Posts

I met with my NUT yesterday, 12 days after surgery. Previously she had told me that she would have my Vitamins for me, but oops, the only store that sells them in Guadalajara is out and doesn't know when they'll be in stock. She suggested I go to GNC for calcium citrate and D and double my Centrum Multivitamin. I'll get a B 12 blood test on Monday. I had to go to three stores and drive an hour away before I found the vitamins close to what I need.

Amazon U.S. doesn't ship these vitamins to Mexico. Amazon Mexico doesn't carry them. costco doesn't carry them, so....

I'm asking if everyone is taking vitamins long term. I'm reading that they are needed for life, perhaps. I'm going to be in the states in June and I'm wondering if I should buy a one year supply so I don't have to go through this every time I need vitamins.

Thank You for any advise.

As far as I know, I'll be taking the Vitamins forever--I could be wrong, but I've been taking Multivitamins for years and B-complex for quite a while, too, before the surgery. Either way, you certainly will need them for the first year, so yes, I'd advise getting a supply so you don't have to worry about them. Better safe than sorry on this front . . .

And, just out of curiosity, what about other vendors besides Amazon? I mean, would buying them on this site get them shipped to you?

You will take Vitamins for the rest of your life after WLS. It is very important that you keep up with them to avoid problems. Stocking up would be a very good idea IMHO

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
