Anyalee 0 Posted November 1, 2007 Hi! I finally got a tentative date for the surgery Dec 13th as long as everything falls into place before then. I had to start wearing the CPAP at night but it doesn't seem to be working. I feel like I can't breath & then I get to a point when I think I'm going to pass out. After I get a headache I take the machine off and go to sleep without it. Anybody have any advice for me? I've only tried for two nights, but I have to wear this thing for 2 weeks before the surgery at least....HELP!:faint:
BlueEyedKitty 0 Posted November 1, 2007 Don't give up on CPAP if it's only been 2 nights. It can take several weeks to get used to. If you're feeling like you're not getting enough air, your pressure may not be high enough and you should check with your doctor about increasing pressure a little bit. Also, make sure you've got the right mask for your face. If you hate your mask, you have the wrong mask. There are too many options available to be stuck with a mask that's not working for you. Try wearing your CPAP for a bit while reading or watching tv, it can help with desensitization. Good luck!!
Sandy63 0 Posted November 1, 2007 Anyalee, Congratulations on your surgery date, that's my birthday! I also am on the CPAP. My doctor prescribed ambien to help me adjust to sleeping with the mask. Ten minutes after taking the ambien I don't even know I have the mask on my face! GOOD stuff! Maybe your doctor can give you a prescription just to help you adjust to the CPAP. GayleTX 1 Posted November 1, 2007 The medical supply company and technicians are supposed to be available to help you at all times.....give them a call. And do try other masks or nasal pillows....they make all the difference in the world.
