GizzlyKitten 32 Posted April 26, 2018 Hi guys,I’m new to this forum. I wanted to know if one week is enough to take off after surgery, I work a desk job eight hours a dayMy info packet said 4-6 weeks. I know people who only took two weeks and others who took a month. I can probably only afford to take about 2 weeks off. Your probably going to need to see how you feel and what your doctor suggests
Walter.Sobchak 978 Posted April 26, 2018 I only missed 4 days of work. Had surgery on a Thursday and was back to work on Wednesday. 1 week would be sufficient in my humble opinion.
Down South Aussie 65 Posted April 26, 2018 My plan is surgery on a Tuesday, i will return to work the following Friday, so about 10 days later, That way it is only one day before another couple of days of rest. I have spoken to my team about it and because i am also at a desk they are saying we will eval post op but they dont think it is going to be a problem. Sammy 10-30 57 Posted April 26, 2018 All depends on how fast you recover and the amount of fortitude you have. I had surgery on Monday and I was mowing my lawn on the weekend. The physician and staff highly recommended to get up and moving although you will not have an ounce of willingness to so and from my experience, this was the best advice given because I did push through it and the more I moved around (Walking) each day became better. Additionally, my doctor wanted me to walk at least 45 mins a day prior to surgery to maximize my strength prior to surgery, and I was back to those walks a week later. Did your doctor give you similar advice prior to surgery?

If there is scar tissue in your stomach, your pain could be worse. I recovered very fast and had little pain, my wife on the other hand was in a great deal of pain. However, she had a lot of scar tissue from c-sections and other procedures.
Missy9rae 11 Posted April 27, 2018 I only took a week and was ready to go back. But everyone is different.
VanessaKaye 30 Posted April 27, 2018 I had to take off six weeks. I work with individuals with mental and physical disabilities. It's very strenuous. But I think one to two weeks for a desk job should be okay. 1 Walter.Sobchak reacted to this
lokaaaal8888888 7 Posted April 27, 2018 I’m gonna use up my leave which is just two weeks, my work provides short term disability which is 60% of your pay, so I’ll take that as well for another 2 weeks. I had a hernia repair several years ago and the recovery was rough so I’m anticipating this to be the same, back then I took a full month off and even that really wasn’t enough

I have had two previous abdominal surgery, on the second one they told me the cleaned out a ton of scar tissue from the first one. that was back in 2004 I often wonder if the second one left scar tissue... guess I will find out soon!
