Did Something Stupid after VSG...

Recommended Posts

Ok, so, I was cleared to start pureed/thicker things by my nutritionist. I had mashed potatoes (maybe 3 small spoonfuls) and a friend of mine had fish. The mashed potatoes were really good. Then I looked at my friend's FRIED fish. Look y'all, I KNOW fried is an absolute no no. ESPECIALLY only 8 days p.o. But for some reason, I was like "I want it!" I wasn't "hungry" for it, but I wanted it. Then I thought "What was the worst that can happen?"

I thought if I scrape off the skin, I may be fine. I added a dash of organic, low sugar ketchup and chewed on it. I swallowed it and was like "That tasted ok. Not as good as I remember, but ok." I took another bite, then another bite.

Then...it hit me like a freight train. Insane nausea, food felt like it was lodged in my throat and the top of mt stomach started to ache. I ran to the bathroom and threw up every-single-bite I ate. Every bit. The rest of my stomach didn't hurt, but it felt like it was trying to push out every bit of BS I just ate.

It really hit me that:

1.) I was insanely stupid

2.) I ate when I wasn't even hungry (and obviously I did that pre surgery)

3.) I fell right back into a toxic habit, luckily my stomach can not hold nearly as much as it used to so I stopped (forcibly) after a total of 3 bites of fish and 3 small bites of mashed potatoes (may be a Tablespoon total).

4.) I deserve to feel any pain that comes with me throwing up. I KNEW better.

Has anyone else done this? I know I hope I NEVER EVER do this buffoonery again. There is a diet for a freaking reason.

Nikki i want to thank you for sharing what i hope will be great lesson for all those pre wls.

The sleeve will work and do its job. The only thing that will stop you from reaching your goal is YOU.

It is so much a mental game after surgery. We are our own worse enemy.

Please use these early months to learn how to deal with these situations because if this had been month 6 nothing would have happened except your post would have been "Stalled and dont know why"

Your Sleeve will help control you for a little bit but the window can be small. Use this time well.

the coping skills you develop now will determine the level of success you achieve.

good luck and hold on to that feeling you had just before you threw up. That memory might be the very thing to get you past the next hurdle.

So, so true. I have always been self aware, but this incident really hit me hard. I had a battlr with food that could have been dangerous. I am buckling down.

This is really good to see for me, actually. I am one week post op today and I'm not craving bad food or anything but I'm craving food i can chew! I've been on only liquids for 21 days now, and I have at least 8 or 9 days to go before I can go to blended food (per my dietician/surgeon) it's a long process with us. I'm soooo envious when i see other VSG peeps get to transition to blended foods so much earlier than me! i almost gave in but I'm persistent to stick with the plan every step of the way. The thing is too, I feel hunger pains/pangs. It is not head hunger, it's a constant gurgle with the feeling we had pre-op with feeling super hungry. I even upped my PPI. I pray this will go away. So it takes me like an hour to drink my shake, but my stomach hurts with hunger like ten fifteen minutes later! I hope with real food this will go away. I cannot and will not fail!

The same with me. I’m 9 days post op and I had to do a 2 week pre-op liquid diet and now another 2 week liquid diet post-op. I can’t wait to have something of more substance. I have 6 more days

Ugh! It is the worst! But I guess they are getting our New stomachs ready for their new adventures lol! The hunger is what freaks me out, I long for a mashed sweet potato! I am from cape cod and I HATE fish so that's out, plus tilapia is literally the garbage fish of the sea, it is not good for you admits the only kind I "like". Blended chicken for me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
