I'm pre-op. I take a lot of Advil and Tylenol for reoccurring headaches and I'm worried after reading this can cause complications after surgery. The doctor has never been able to pinpoint my headaches, between sinus inflammation, high BP, etc. but hopefully headaches decrease with weight loss.

Do any folks post-op have experience with taking NSAIDs regularly post-op?

Thanks!

I am forbidden to take them. I miss them. But I'm learning to get along with just Tylenol. Has been less problematic than I feared.

My understanding is that NSAIDs are off the table from about a week before surgery till about a month after. You should talk to your doctor about specifically what they require.

Before surgery, I alternated Tylenol/Advil every 2 hours for back pain. When I woke up from surgery, my incisions were fine but I was in full-on back spasms. The doctor had to give me pain meds for that, not the surgery.

My doctor put me on Celebrex at my 6-week checkup, just at night to sleep. He has me take it at the same time as my PPI to protect my stomach a bit. During the day, I sit with my back on a heating pad most of the day and just take Tylenol.

This is definitely a conversation to have with your doctor.

I have horrible arthritis but working out has been a part of my life since I was young. My doc recommended the sleeve because in time, you can take nsaids, and of course in moderation.

Thanks for all the responses! I am planning on talking to my doctor about this too. I'm in the early pre-op stages where I'm taking a class starting next week that won't provide the space for surgery specific questions. My orientation isn't until week 6 of that, so it's going to be awhile until I am able to.

Good to hear Tylenol may be an option! That helps bring some temporary relief until I can get a firm answer from the doc! :D

I wouldn't run the risk of taking NSAIDs. It's just not worth irritating your stomach.

My Dr told me I could take NSAIDS with no restrictions. A few Dr's allow it with a Ppi. Some not at all. Even the two Dr's in the my practice have different viewpoints. Do the research yourself, have an intelligent conversation with your Dr, and understand the risks.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
