Hi

I had a gastric sleeve done in August last year.

Initially I went down 3 stone very quickly then I slowly lost another stone. I'm stable now and have actually put on about 3 lbs this month.

I've been wondering if Constipation is a common problem or if its something that anyone else has experienced.

if anyone can give me any advice I struggle with fruit and vegetables in general since surgery.

I am worried this could be a problem with me eventually stretching my sleeve and regaining the weight which I really don't want to do. The hospital I went to was Luton in the UK but I haven't got another appointment for another 2 months.

Any one have any thoughts or suggestions I would very grateful for any support, am losing the will and I feel very depressed at the moment whenever I think about it.

If you're storing poo in your sleeve, girl, you have a WAY bigger problem than any of us schmoes here on the board can help you solve! LOL.

You can store a remarkable amount of poo in your colon and material in your bowels. And I know for me, my trains have slowed considerably on the track. My schedule is off.

I make sure I'm getting in 120oz of Water a day (for me that is necessary). I also am working now to start adding Fiber to my diet in a serious way. Hopefully that will knock everything back into schedule and get things moving!

Sorry about the slow weight loss but congrats on the 3 stones. I'd go back to journaling and tracking your food to make sure you're eating what you think you are. 3lbs of gain is something to get on top of now rather than later.

Oh and welcome to the boards! Stick around here. Read a lot and post often!

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

I am pleased with the first loss but am disappointed things have slowed down so much.

Am trying to increase fibre with wheetabix and things like that but the not being able to eat vegetables thing is not helping!

Signed back up to a tracking website to keep on top of calories and fat although was told not to by the surgeon.

Only just found the site so am going to keep looking for ideas on here :)

thanks again

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
