Periods after gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone

Just wanted to ask a quick question as I haven't been able to find anything online.

I was sleeved on the 8th of February and after 7 months of no period from being on the pill, it finally arrived on the 1st of March.

It's now the 28th of April and I'm still on, that's nearly 8 weeks of period (54 days exactly)

My doctor wants to see me to get me checked out but I was just wondering if anyone else had been on for this long, and when did it finally end?!

Mine seem to be such a tease! They get lighter and lighter and I'll even have nothing for a day then suddenly they'll be heavy again! It's really frustrating as it's making me crave bad foods more than usual. I hope I don't become anemic after all this blood loss

Thanks ladies xxx

Oooh hon, that’s a long time to be bleeding! You should go get checked up on. I was regular before surgery and regular after surgery. I would say early post op some might have some issues in the way of recovery, of which you could be in, BUT that is entirely too long. Please do get a check up.

If I don’t take my birth control around the same time every day, I will bleed.. like clockwork... it has been terrible after surgery. My surgeon said it would regulate itself once I’m in maintenance phase 🙄 went to my “lady” doctor and she told me the same thing.. so I’ve been taking my birth control between 6-8a every single day to help.

I have an IUD and didn’t have a period for seven months leading up to my surgery and then when I was on a liquid diet, the flood gates opened and I had it for almost three/four weeks. My body has now regulated and I am back to normal. But to be honest, I think your body is just going through so much change that it does not know what is going on. I would get it checked out but my body did eventually go back to normal.

Thank you, yeah I think I should when I get back home, it's ridiculous! If only there was a magic pill that just stopped it in its tracks lol

Do you know what, I used to take it at the same time every day until I had surgery, then I chose to just take it with my Vitamins when I woke up, but I don't work so I get up at different times. I'm going to set my alarm again and take my pill separately and see what happens, thank you!

That sounds just like me haha I'm glad your back to normal and yeah I was told my body is probably in shock! Did you see the doctor about it or just let nature run its course?

I have the opposite - no period for two months. I'm dreading its return though!

I'm on the pill too and I still got it monthly but missed 2 days because of the hospital/homecoming etc. I got mine like 4/19 and it's still kinda hanging around too, just spotting but still! I went ON the pill to get rid of this crap!

I had a similar thing happened on the IUD I was bleeding for a month after 3 years. They removed it got me on a different hormone to stop it literally within two days it stopped. This was all because I have major ovarian cysts

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
