Justin’s Vanilla Almond Butter

Recommended Posts

4 weeks out of surgery, still in the puréed diet and was looking for something I could take on the go (to get extra Protein between meals).

Justin’s vanilla Almond Butter is literally the best thing I’ve eaten in MONTHS. If you haven’t tried it, I highly suggest that you do (if you’re a fan of nut butters).

Anyone else tried it?

That’s a lot of added sugar. More sugar than Protein.

8 grams of sugar and 5grams of Protein isn’t terrible. Particularly if you are eating it as a snack on rare occasions.

If it fits your plan, go for it! Something with more sugar than Protein wasn’t on mine. Plus, I tried to spend the early days weaning myself off added sugar and killing off the cravings. I’m going on five years out and still avoid added sugar for the most part.

I personally avoid anything with added sugar, if it says "made with cane sugar" I avoid it. But that's just my personal opinion. I don't want to train my brain to be "attracted" (for a lack of better words) to sweet things. The only thing I eat that is remotely sweet, is the occasional fruit.

This is the one I use and it’s getting hard to find. I don’t want to go on living without these. Enough Protein and very little carb and can be eaten even while commuting.

if you find these anywhere get some. It seems like both these and Buff Bake are stopping being made and I feel these are literal lifesavers for Bariatric patients. They add protein to the Peanut Butter so it really is a perfect snack that can be in your car or bag even on a super hot day, and it stops the shaky hunger and is very tasty and satisfying. Check out the protein vs sugar and carbs.

I have really taken after you. Thank you in general for so many great suggestions. And yes I’d be happy if these Protein packets of Peanut Butter had zero sugar! I also avoid all sweet tasting stuff. But the one I use has 12 G protein and 3 g sugar.

Those wild friends ones look great too bad they are discontinued!

Yeah you won’t find nut butter with zero sugar because the nuts contain natural sugar, but I try to find ones with no added sugar anyhow!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
