Chrisb428 626 Posted April 21, 2018 Has anyone here had issues with controlling thyroid level (presurgery) and if so has it gotten better or worse since surgery? Any help would be appreciated!
daniellelosing 33 Posted April 21, 2018 My inconsistent thyroid levels were a huge part of decision to move forward with wls...my endocrinologist actually recommended it and thinks it will help
Chrisb428 626 Posted April 21, 2018 (edited) That's who suggested it to me as well. I am on synthroid 200 and can't get it where they need to be. Edited April 21, 2018 by Chrisb428

daniellelosing 33 Posted April 22, 2018 I just had my surgery on Wednesday....so this is day five....I am not hungry and I don’t feel low energy....The recovery for me was a lot tougher than I anticipated...I expected to be in my own clothes walking miles and miles around the halls the second day...once they got my pain under control it went better. I came home Friday and it has been rough...I’ve learned short frequent walks are much better than long walks I did too much my first day home.I was planning on returning to work this week but that is not happening I am taking off this week and possibly the following now.It gets better though today I weighed and was down ten lbs in the hospital most people gain from the iv fluids and swelling. When is your surgery? Chrisb428 626 Posted April 22, 2018 Wow, I am so sorry you're recovery has been so rough, but congrats on being done! My surgery won't be until late Aug or early Sept I'm guessing. My last of the required 6 mos weight loss visits isn't until July 24th. I'm so anxious to just get it over with. If it's ok, I'd like to follow you on here and find out how you are progressing. I am eager to see if it helps with the thyroid levels. Thank u for taking the time to reply and I hope the recovery process gets easier for you! ~Chrissy

Jeannie49 101 Posted April 23, 2018 I have a screwed up thyroid and my endo suggested the surgery as well as I was just not able to get on top of the weight gain. Both the endo and my surgeon said mine won't be the type that will go away after surgery but I would go down in dosages and so far they are right. Surgeon did say a lot of people are able to come off the meds. I was on 3 thyroid pills a day (T4 and T3 in the am and another T3 in the afternoon). After close to 4 months, they re-tested me and my levels have gone up so they just took away my afternoon pill. I'm hoping it doesn't slow down my weight loss because I felt absolutely fine on the dosages I was on...guess we'll see this week. Good luck to those still waiting for surgery.
