Well I had my 2 week follow up today and can officially start some pureed stuff. First up was a tablespoon of pureed chicken breast mixed with a little broth and greek yogurt. So far so good. PA was amazed at my Fluid intake (about 110 oz plus 3 Premiere Protein Shakes yesterday) and said my weight loss so far was about average. I am really feeling fine....almost like it never happened.

Will be ramping up my exercise over the next couple of weeks.....so far just a lot of walking and some 3-5 pound dumbells for upper body work.

Chicken was a little bland but IT WAS NOT A Protein SHAKE!!!

Okay this is rude but How much have you lost so far?? Pre-op + 2 weeks post-op? Just trying to gauge what I might expect since I’m close to surgery date!!

Not rude at all. From my preop appointment on 4/26 until today I have lost 17 pounds. From the start of my 2 week preop diet until today (4 weeks) I have lost 24 pounds. In addition to the PA I also saw the nutritionist...she said I should expect to start losing a bit more quickly after starting foods but I honestly feel so much better than I did 4 weeks ago that I am more than happy with where I am at.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
