Wonder if it's true both nurses and doctors make the worst patients, they are educated too much to see,all the bad things, they can't relax. True story: My cousin Sally, a former NICU nurse, had a sick little boy, drug him off to his pediatrican, oh she was certain he had Reyes Syndrome, thinking with her Mom instinct instead of being objective and using her BSN, turned out Jeffie only had a simple upper respiratory infection. After Dr Stitzline calmed her" Mom worries" he teased her a little bit.😜

So Hope2018, love your pen name by the way, where in Ohio did you come from ? And where in Florida do you live? How long ago did you become a Florida Gator? Haven't been that far south for,a few years. Hey do,you suppose if some Gator regards me as potential bait, Premier and other Protein Shakes might gave me a bad taste? Just looking for hidden benefits to a shake diet😜

How about the gator thinking you're too small to bother with?

Born in Columbus, grew up in Medina. Now living in Micanopy, just south of Gainesville. I am a Florida Gator because I work at UF....I supposed I'll have to start drinking the sugar free Gatorade pretty soon. I'm really a Texas Longhorn though - if we're talking teams and football and alma mater. I root for the Gators unless they play my Longhorns. Family are all Ohio Buckeyes.

I finally found the perfect spot on here!! I turned 60 a couple of months ago and am having VSG on May 2. I have been thinking about it for about a year and saw the surgeon for the first time in December. I am currently day 8 on the preop diet and am actually amazed that it is going so well and I am not struggling with it at all. Developed serious weight issues about the time I turned 50 and lost 40 pounds on my own doing Atkins. Then I quit smoking after 35 years and have gained 100 lbs. since 2009. Have been unable to work since 2016 due to severe asthma and back pain and (worst) unable to ride the motorcycle with my husband in over 2 years. I want my life back!!

I am so glad to find some peeps in my age bracket!! We got this!!

How are you doing MIZ60??? Tomorrow's the big day? Did you survive the pre-op diet? Thinking of you!!

Well Hook'Em Horns, honey babe.I should find a team with better colors, scarlet and gray doesn't go too well with red hair, most of my sweats are white or pink with the logo. Last, time I wore the pink one which,is a XXXL somebody made a wisecrack about here comes strawberry Shortcake, I should only have the money she's made with her happy little self!
Maybe I should go out to the college bookshop, Mount Vernon Nazarene's colors are forest green and white. Kenyon College in nearby Gambirr, 8 miles away, are purple and white. Hmm I do have Cleveland Browns, I'd look like a big pile of you know what💩 in those. I do have a Paul Warfield, a Bernie Loser tshirt, but the prize of them a Dante Lavelli, most of them have rotted and turned to compost by now! Too small, its from when I was merely a little pain in the tushie.
Well should get up and start my day, a choice, oatmeal with 1% milk, cottage cheese or a bottle of. Premier Protein . No I'm not on liquid but I have started replacing a meal a day, usually lunch, in the hopes I might drop a tad weight before May 24th, want them thinking I'm trying instead laying here letting my fat congeal.
Well up and at em, Adam Ant! Very old cartoon series.😝

I am doing very well, thanks for asking. We have to be in the hospital at 0530 tomorrow which means leaving the house by 0445. I am really glad it worked out that way so I will get it over with early in the day. I will spend 1 night and be home Thursday. I have everything I need for the next week already here so husband will not have to do much other than help me get up and down if needed.

Preop diet has been okay, yesterday was the first "no food at all" day but I made it. More of the same today and in fact for the next 2 weeks other than I am allowed non fat/sugar Greek yogurt in addition to the other stuff. sugar free popsicles have become my BFF (best frozen friend) ...lol.

Will post here tomorrow when I wake up.

We don't have to worry girls, I think MIZ60 is a class act, she'll come through this so cool, she'll be doing handsprings going in and singing coming out. Of course it could be "sooner or later, babe I'm gonna get ya" directed at the surgeon. Yellow Rose of Texas or Rose of San Antone we know she' s higher than Cootie Brown, Bringing in the Sheaves, she's had. a "Come to Jesus "moment But if it's "What Part of NO don't you Understand?: they had better tie everything down , cause she is PO'd! 👈😝👉

I had my surgery at 61 (I’m 63 now and 2 years out). By sticking to the rules and eating high protein/low carb, I reached goal by 9 months and have maintained my current weight for 17 months (115-118 pounds). I did have PS: A TT and a facelift. The turkey neck and jowls remaining after my fat face slimmed down were too much for me.

You have done a fabulous job and it is inspirational. I am right there with you on the facelift thing and will decide about the other stuff when I get there. Interesting that you went below your goal--you look beautiful and I bet you feel great.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
