I used to drink Diet Cherry vanilla DR Pepper A LOT...as well as other pops. I dropped them out of my diet completely in February.

Weeee, happy hump day to you guys too. They sent us home at noon today and we are closed tomorrow because of Fay. I am so looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow, if Fay will let me that is.

Froggi, that is just awful all the problems you are going through. Hopefully the nurse can straighten everything out for you.

Thanks, I don't think it is going to hit us as hard as originally thought. But, we are on the north side of the storm, which tends to be the worst side. I am all stocked up on supplies and what not, now it is just a wait and see kind of thing. The last tropical storm we had put us without power for 5 days. That was pre-LBT. I hope that doesn't happen again or I may go into serious withdrawal!

Thanks hun. I hope she does too. So much testing seems so pointless. I've already had lung xrays too so why even more. I had one breathing test...90% lung capacity...why more My nurse and surgeon didn't think I needed a sleep apnea test...why now? I just don't get it.

I wish you luck through the fury of Fay. Hope things go well.

I could see the need for a sleep study, but not other lung tests. That's crazy. My lung capacity was in the 80s and the surgeon said it was low, but ok for surgery. I hope you get good news when the nurse calls you back.

Thanks. I hope I do too. My lung capacity was 87 on the first blow...she said that was good had me take a pump from an inhaler and it went to 90. It was good in the first place...so I don't understand why they want me to go through so much. I have absolutely no symptoms of sleep apena either. If you don't have symptoms of it why test for it? And I've had surgeries before so it's not like I crashed in them.

Froggi, you know I loves ya, man....but I have to take a slightly different route. The "lung capacity" test that you take by blowing into a tube doesn't tell that much about your lung function. It's actually one of those tests that reveals more when somebody does horrible on them. I guess what I'm trying to say is that just because you did good on that particular test doesn't exactly clear you of all pulmonary problems.

Could this be just another money grab? Sure, it might be. But when a lung specialist ends up ordering more tests than the bariatric nurse expects, he may be seeing something that gives him pause. At the very least, he may just want to be absolutely certain that everything will go smoothly on surgery day.

If you really really suspect that the pulmonologist may be ordering unnecessary test, tell your bariatric doc that there's no way you can afford to pay for all these diagnostic tests, and is there any other way to get your surgery done. Maybe it'll work, maybe not....

Either way, you know I'm on your side here.

I'm just starting to worry again, I was told yesterday my surgery will be in november for sure...then this damn pulmonologist wants to make me do 10 weeks of shit for him that will go into my surgery time. Just pisses me the fuck off. I was not told I would have to do so much more shit...and my nurse was surprised when I gave her a list of what he wanted. I have to have my surgery this year or I won't ever be able to have it. I won't have insurance after December 31st. I guess I was meant to not be banded.:)

Aww shit, girl....I will keep you in my thoughts. Stay positive and KNOW it will work out OK. <sending positive vibes>

Thanks. From what the papers he gave me said...I am having a Cat scan of my chest with contrast, a high resolution chest cat scan, and a cat scan of the sinuses. Then in the next appt he wants me to have a lung volume, dico, and spiro. Whatever that stuff is lol. And the paper on the apnea study said within the next week or so I would get a call for making an appt for the sleep study. It's hard to make all these appointments around my mom's work schedule. The Monday one on August 25th is fine...but I think the September 3rd one is going to need changed. But I don't know. It's just more hoops to jump through. But when he told me 10 weeks, my heart dropped. I'm supposed to be having surgery in November. That draws things close.

Aww shit, girl....I will keep you in my thoughts. Stay positive and KNOW it will work out OK. <sending positive vibes>

Thanks hun. I need all the good vibes I can get. I am trying to stay positive too. I'm thinking I've made it this far don't give up now...it's just more hoops everything will work out. It's hard though. Surgery is coming up around the corner and I have to do a lot of stuff for the pulmonologist. But of course like I said...my nurse/surgeon are going to speak with him and see why he wants so many tests and see if EVERYTHING is needed.

My flight didn't take off due to fog. Sitting in the airport with my 89 yr old dad complaining for 2 hours about made me crazy. I want ice cream!

Good thing I have none in the house. This calls for a hot fudge sundae.

Bad habits are hard to break. Good thing I am too lazy to go to the store.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
