I have absolutely no energy on this pre op diet. I can only have Protein Shakes, Water, Zero Calorie/Zero Sugar drinks/enhancers, sugar free Popsicles and Jello, and Low Sodium broths. I am meeting my daily Protein goal, my daily water intake, and taking all my Vitamins. Somebody mentioned Iron and I called my surgeon's office and they said there is no need to take iron right now and that they will check those levels 3 months out. I'm just worried because my iron runs low and I am exhausted, dizzy, and weak all the time. I have 5 more days to go on this clear liquid diet. My hunger really isn't even an issue, the water and protein keep me at bay (most) of the time. Does anybody have any other suggestions? Thank you!

It has been a crazy ride. I am on Day 13 right now. Even though the scale is dropping about a pound a day, I am going crazy. I am moody, crying randomly, I just want something to chew! Clear Liquids are insane. I am limited to broth, sf popsicles, sf Jello and that is it. Aside from my Protein Shakes which are making me want to vomit after drinking them so much. I hear of people that are allowed 1 meal a day or those with only a 2 day liquid diet and it makes me want to cry because mine. is. so. strict. 1 more day is my mantra. I find it easier at work because I have no time to focus but when at home, no matter how much cleaning, running on treadmill, walking my dog, I am just so hungry. I'd give anything for a carrot at this point.

You will be so thankful that your pre op diet was this strict. This is the hardest part (in my opinion) of the whole process. I think that the pre op diet you have, and I had...really prepares you for the first few weeks after surgery. It prepares you mentally. I have a friend who got this surgery, 2.5 years before I did. She didn't have a pre op diet. She said the night before her surgery she took the bowel prep, and went to a local steak house. She literally ran back and forth from the table (stuffing her face) to the bathroom (sh**ing her brains out). She struggled immensely with the food stages after surgery. She had head hunger like you wouldn't believe. She cried and slipped into a depressive state. She said, no one ever prepares you for the mental part of this surgery. Sure we take psych evaluations, but I've yet to see required therapy as a part of a program. I'll tell you, what prepared me... was the damn pre op diet. It prepared me for how long and hard this journey was going to be. You will come out stronger than those who didn't have to do this. Keep your chin up! You are almost done!

Thank you so much AshAsh1. That is a great way to look at this. I'm on day 13 right now and it is almost over. I honestly believe what you said. After surgery the liquid diet is going to be pretty normal still. The only difference is I will be able to add creamy liquids. That will be a nice reprieve and a step up. Hard to say but giving myself something to look forward to like creamy liquids, really changes my perspective on things. I guess we are starting from the bottom moving up. I much rather have the head hunger and crying now than have those urges after the surgery when I'd be at more of a risk. Thank you for this pick-me-up. It was exactly what I needed! Plus if we can make it through this we can pretty much make it through most anything.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
