Dr. Jay Jan

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to schedule my appointments with OWLS and wondered if anyone had Dr. Jan perform their surgery. I have read the messages about the staff in the office, but I am more interested in the experiences that were had with the doctors in the office. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm getting ready for surgery with him as well. I think it should be the first week of December sometime. Have you already had your pre-surgery consult? What did that entail if so?

Good luck to you!:)

I had my surgery with Dr. Jan last month on the 16th. He was very nice and answered all of my questions. He kept me overnight since I had a hiatal hernia. I had a lot of chest pressure from the repair of the hernia and when I had concerns he scheduled an appointment for me to see him right away.

I've read a few comments about his office and I haven't had an issues. Everyone has been real friendly and prompt with returning calls. The only issue I've run into is one of the asst doctors who checks you in and talks to you before Dr. Jan comes in doesn't speak english very well. I found myself asking the same questions I asked Dr. Ghandi again to Dr. Jan since I really didn't understand his responses very well. Dr. Jan was very happy to go over all of the questions I had.:D

Have you had your surgery since posting this question?

I had Dr Hong as my surgeon but he returned to Canada about a month after my surgery. So Dr Jan has done most of my post op care. I like him a lot; he's very competent, very nice, answers all questions. He's professional, not warm & fuzzy. I think he's very competent. I REALLY like following up with the new PA in the office, Patrick. He's a little more personable and spends quite a bit of time and discussion before figuring out with you if you need a fill. Both Patrick and Dr Jan have never had trouble accessing my port. The surgical fellow is the only one who has had trouble accessing my port.

Overall, all my experiences at OWLS have been positive. If you've already had your band surgery, congrats!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
