Being Banded Tomorrow!

I prepared nothing for the gas. I just thought that was something to expect after surgery and anesthesia, and the gas won't really start moving until day 2 and day 3. Maybe gasx would have helped, over that now though.

From what I understand from the other posts that I have read, GasX does not help with the type of gas pain that will be experienced since it is not related to the stomach/intestines. What a lot of people have recommended is using a heating pad and walking tons to help alleviate the gas pain. I wish I knew that last summer when I had my gallbladder removed!

I hope all of you have speedy recoveries!

You know, I've read that, too, about Gas-X, and I'm curious how it would work. I just figured it wouldn't hurt and it might keep me from having the other kind of gas. I've burped a couple of times and it doesn't feel that great (just had surgery today.)

Welcome to the board and thanks for sharing!

You're home already and on the computer?! You're going to heal in no time!

Feel better and try to get some rest...and when you're up to it, please let us know how your surgery went.

About gas...my doctor said Phillips Milk of Magnesia liquid. I used it and had no problem with gas. The hardest part for me was walking around because i was so drugged up on the pain medicine they prescribed. They want you up and around to get rid of the gas. Good luck ya'll.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
