I know everyone’s body is different and loses R different rates. However I’m one week post op as of today and I’m so frustrated that I’m only down one pound. Fluids and Protein have not been that much of a problem. With the restriction I just assumed I would have lost by now. Hell, I lost more weight,8 pounds, on my 1 week pre op liquid diet than post op. WITW!!

Generally when you leave the hospital after surgery, you weigh significantly more than when you first arrived. This is because they pump your body full of fluids. It takes several days for you to lose this additional weight to arrive at your starting point.

Additionally, anesthesia itself can cause many patients to retain Water longer than usual. I am still pre-op, but have had surgeries previously and always know to avoid the scale for about 2 weeks until all the weight gain attributed to the hospital fluids/medications/anesthesia have worn off.

I was the same way. Nothing the first week. At week 2 I was down 14.

I came home 12# heavier than when I went in for surgery. It was gone in about a week.

My surgeon specifically told me to not worry about the scale until my 2-week post op appointment. I'm assuming it's because of what you're describing. Don't be too hard on yourself---it will happen!

I also was 14 lbs heavier when I went home from the hospital. Today marks one week after the surgery. I lost 2 lbs total from my pre surgery weight. So don’t worry so much about the first week.

I came home from the hospital and hopped on the scale to find I was up 17 pounds! I wasn't shocked. I didn't know about the Water weight. It came off plus another 25 in less than 2 weeks.

Nope. Search the forum for the infamous 3 week stall. Keep following your plan and it will break.

This! When I gave birth to my son (9 lb 13oz), I figured I'd have lost about 10 lb. Nope! I was the same weight, with swollen extremities from all the fluids they pumped into me.

I didn't weigh myself for 5 or 6 das when I got home from my sleeve surgery, so I don't know if it went them same this time around.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
