Warning, TMI Lol! I’m just wondering if anyone else has been through the same thing and what was the outcome? I had the sleeve on 3/26. I am three weeks out and on the puréed stage. Since I started this stage last week, my stomach has been a mess. It’s making loud gurgling noises I’ve never heard before and I’ve had diarrhea (I’m sorry but it’s true!) for close to a week. Anyone else have this issue? What was the outcome?

Yes I called the Dr and they told me to try Imodium for a couple of days. Yesterday was day 1 and no relief. I am calling them again today.

Generally in the hospital many patients receive antibiotics because there are a lot of strange germs floating around in a hospital and since you had surgery, you have an open wound that must not get infected.

But antibiotics kill not only the bad bacteria but also the good bacteria in your gut. Therefore when you leave the hospital and are off all the antibiotics, you need to reestablish the colonies of good gut bacteria. This is done by taking some Probiotics for awhile in order to reestablish your colonies of good gut bacteria. Otherwise your gut may not be able to process food properly and as a result produce diarrhea.

I think everyone can corroborate what you are experiencing to one extent or another, though everyone seems to encounter their bouts of nausea, Constipation, diarrhea, gurgling, upset stomach, etc at different stages. That said diarrhea at this stage isn't a bad thing you should be "expunging" fat at this point with your diet so loose stool is common.

My doctor had me take probiotics for the same reasons.

My stomach still gurgles, and it does it loudly! People can hear it across the room. I am getting used to it but I have read from others on this site that gurgling has lingered for many.

I’m 4 weeks post op and I gurgle every time I eat, it’s so annoying. My doctor told me it’s acid reflux. As far as the bowels, I’ve had the opposite issue.

I'm 3.5 weeks post op. When you guys are talking about "gurgling" are you also talking about a general uneasiness in your stomach and digestive system? The reason I ask, is because it seems no matter what I eat, it goes down a little uneasy. I don't feel like I'm going to throw up, and I haven't thrown up yet, but nothing feels 100% going down.

I would describe it as gas sounds. Like when you have to fart, but can’t because you are somewhere you shouldn’t, lol. BUT the sounds are much louder then your regular everyday gas. My Dr prescribed a stronger version of Imodium to help me out. I work in an office with three people around me. It is mortifying to say the least! Hopefully these new pills work. Thank you everyone for the input!

The Gas-X chewables were a life-saver for me! OK, too dramatic, maybe a dignity-saver?

Nothing stops the stomach noises. I have eaten a tons of tums, nexium, gas x etc. I have a friend who had this done two years ago and her stomach still makes these sounds. It appears to be part and parcel of the surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
