When did you feel up to exercising and how much are you doing?

I was banded on 10/29/07 and I'm taking small walks outside about 10 minutes twice a day. I'm a little anxious so I'm walking around inside the house too. I don't want to do too much but I don't want to baby myself? What is everyone else doing?

Congratulations! I guess slow is the best word now. How long did the procedure take to do? How is your discomfort level?

back to the gym myself. I am going to try it Friday. I was banded last Thursday the 25th. So after a week of rest I think I should be o.k. at least getting on the treadmill for 30 minutes a day. I will stay away fromthe weights though, since they said lifting can cause you stiches to pop and your band to slip. I think they said wait 4 or 5 weeks for the weights. I had just stared going to the gym 4 weeks before having the operation. I know I will have to get used to it all over again.:D

After I was banded I listened to my body. If my body only wanted to walk 5 minutes then I only walked 5 minutes. I walked all the time to get rid of the gas, but in doses that I could handle, and most of the time I just shuffled along slowly. Slowly there was a change I was walking longer and faster. I have been banded 4 weeks and I can walk about 3 miles in an hour. I am pretty happy with that. I walk about 5 times a week. At this point I plan to make walking my exercise of choice for another 4 weeks and then I will toddle of to the gym. If I need more exercise I will increase my speed and walking time. Good luck and just listen to your body; it will tell you what it needs.

deez9,

I never asked how long my procedure took but I remember my husband telling me that the doctor said my anatomy was "good." I guess that meant that things went well. My doctor popped in to see me the next day to make sure I was ok and then I was discharged. Everything went so fast. My discomfort comes and goes. It usually worse after sitting or lying for a while. Funny thing is, the percocet doesn't really seem to make a lot of difference. I take it so that I can make the most of my recovery but there is always some discomfort there, usually port side. I went for a walk yesterday and braced my abdomen with a small decorative pillow, which did nicely.

I took small gentle walks of about 3km every day from the day after surgery, when I came home from hospital. By 2 weeks out, I went to the gym a few times a week to use the elliptical for half an hour, 40 minutes.

At about 3 months out, I started running with a short 3km run, and from then on I was hooked, I gradually built up to 40 minutes to an hour four or five times a week.

I have not been a very active person. Have you found that you want to exercise more now since having the surgery?

Exercise is hard to love at first, but as you do more, many people WANT to keep going and do more.

I've jsut had about 10 days off running because I have an injury. To get out last night and go for a run was an awesome feeling. Truly you can get to love it.

HI CASSIE:

Keep a positive attitude. Even through the pain. Listen to your doctor and your body. It will take time to heal physically, but your attitude plays a role in it also. 21 pounds!!!wow!! Hoping that you are doing much better today.

I understand about the excercise issue. I have tried to get out and walk, but I lack the energy. I try to walk atleast 15 minutes a day. I have lost 18 pounds since inital visit, 6 pounds since surgery. Anyone have problems getting all of their Protein in? I was told to have at least 70 grams a day.:bored

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
