Wow am I late to the party! But I should be having my surgery next month. I have one final (my 6th) Nutrition appointment the 21st and then they will schedule me for surgery. My Mom just had her bypass yesterday! She had a few days over two weeks between her last nutrition appointment and her surgery date so I am hoping to have mine early July.

Welcome to you as well! You're on the member list now too!

I don’t have my surgery date as yet, but I’m hoping for July! I have done all the classes, had all the tests except one and have to go back one more time to see the Shrink!
I’m getting excited! I’m sure this will help me!😊

Welcome Dixie! I've added you to the list too.

I had my preop appointment today. Everything is paid for and now I'll have met my out of pocket for the year! I was a little nervous because I'm on day 3 of antibiotics for strep throat but they said I'll be fine for surgery on the 20th. Start my liquid diet on Thursday.

Woo Hoo, you're getting close!! I feel your pain on the strep. I had my tonsils out 2 years ago because I would get strep multiple times a year. Best decision I ever made!!

So I just got me gastric sleeve surgery date which is 9/12. I completed the 3 month nutrition program required by Blue Shield and managed to not lose a single pound. After meeting with the surgeon 2 weeks ago, he told me he wants me to lose 40 lbs before the surgery to make it safer (shrink the liver I’m guessing). He gave me 3 months to lose the weight so the clock is ticking. I also met with the dietician who was very nice and gave me some tips with dieting in order to lose the required weight before the surgery. I am definitely nervous but also excited. I have a friend who did this surgery about 18 months ago and now looks incredible. Glad I stumbled on this site to give and get support!

Welcome! Did they give you a specific meal plan to follow to lose that weight before surgery?

@PCOSSUCKS - First, I am so glad you are doing better and are seem to be out of the woods. I'm thinking of you and your recovery. How scary for you and your family. Secondly, thank you so much for sharing your story here. Any surgery has risks, but I think with WLS we tend to forget (or overlook) the risks because it's a surgery we all want so badly.

This is an important reminder for us to be realistic and be prepared for any and all outcomes. Personally, I updated our will and added a living will just in case. I also had a very honest conversation with my husband about my medical wishes should something go terribly sideways.

It's also an important reminder to keep your perspective in check. We all want our surgery as soon as possible and none of us want to hit a delay or have our date rescheduled. But sometimes that happens. Keep in mind your physician has your best interest in mind and only reschedules, requires additional classes, or insists on you losing more weight prior to surgery because he wants you to have the best possible outcome. It's easy to be disappointed in these setbacks, but it will all work out in the long run. :)

The whole point of this board and this group is to support one another. We will all have successes and failures and complications are a part of the process. I hope everyone here will feel comfortable in sharing what is going on with their recovery and progress so we can all provide support, prayers, laughter, and love. (I know that sounds cheesy, but this is what we're here for!)

I am so happy to have all of you here. We currently have 86 members that have checked in for a Summer surgery!

I keep telling people that time will fly by while waiting for surgery. As proof I was just thinking about how it was just a few weeks ago when I started this post. But today I noticed the actual start date was April 17! Nearly two months ago and it definitely doesn't feel like it's been that long.

As much as I want to enjoy this summer to it's fullest, it will certainly benefit me for it fly by!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
