I'm glad to be joining the summer group. Timing worked out great. I'm taking the kids to the Disney waterparks mid-June then having my surgery at the end of the month. Hopefully by my Thanksgiving cruise I will have shed lots of pounds and be on my way to looking and feeling fab. Bye bye cover-ups Hello tankinis. LOL

Hi-

I am hoping for a late summer surgery but I did not pass my psych eval :( mostly because I was too honest. SO I have 4 to 6 more visits with that doctor...in the mean time I have to get some things done: attend the required classes, do another sleep study, get used to my CPAP and practice eating well.

I have given up most of my sugar. I am down to one diet pepsi a day, a huge improvement from 5 to 6 a day. tomorrow is my first day with no pop.

I am scared. But I am more scared of what my life will be like in 20 years if I don't change my habits now.

Looking forward to getting to know others on this journey. :)

Whew - I've have a busy few weeks and haven't been able to pop in here. Welcome to all the new members!!

I've now completed my counseling and dietitian meetings and my first two classes. One more class to go in June before I can start talking dates with my surgeon. But I'm still targeting August.

My dietitian wants me to start a high Protein diet now to get used to how I'll eat after surgery. So I'm mulling that over. I know I should do it, it's just finding the motivation to get started.

Ylime, my dietition also suggested that, but I cant seem to make myself completely give up carbs yet. I have, however except on occasion, given up almost all refined carbs and have been eating "in order" without drinks to start to adapt. I will as i get closer give up the occasional treats as well. I feel like ive come a long way and am pretty confident i can continue to make the transition without much if any stress when the time comes.

Hi Summer surgery buddies! I just got my date today and it will be June 6th!! Anyone else for 6/6? I’m excited to finally be moving toward the actual date. I’m nervous about the 2 week Protein Shake prep, but determined. Nice to meet everyone. This time next year should be pretty awesome for summer clothing shopping [emoji4]

I just got my insurance approval today and hoping for first week in June. It was too late to call my advocate to see about scheduling, so I'll do that Monday. Getting excited to get on with a better life.

My weight loss surgery is May 15th of this year. I'm excited and nervous, along with going through a slew of emotions. It's hard right now for me but I think it will pay off in the end.

Hi All -

My surgery is July 2018, I am a revision patient converting from a lap band to a sleeve. Please send positive vibes and thoughts that my scar tissue is minimal and I can have the surgery once.

I am vegan and I exercise 3-5 times a week. I am mostly anxious about the liquid diet and how I am going to get all the nutrition my body needs.

My doctor's administrative team should be sending all my information out to my insurance next week, wish me all the luck!

Is anyone in the ATLANTA area?.. I am scheduled for surgery at the end of Aug2018.. I am Uber excited and would like to do this journey with a new friend... I have no additional support so maybe I can relate more with someone who is going to experience this awesome journey as well.

Hello everyone,

Newbie here. I've wanted bariatric surgery for years but my insurance wouldn't give in. Finally, I went on disability, medicare and YIPPEE, they agreed....so far. I had a heart attack in January and that was of course the realization that I was not going to survive to see the grandkids grow up if I didn't do something right away. Also, I wanted to zip line and ride the burro's to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.... and they won't let me because of my weight!!! Thus I've started the preliminary requirements for surgery. I am VERY excited to be doing this and hope it goes well. First, a little about me, I am 63 years old, single. I have 5 children, 11 grandchildren and one dachshund. My starting weight was 317 and is now 313.7; I am 5'9" tall, and a BMI of 45.6. I started this in April. Since the heart attack my Cardiologist has signed off for me to have the sleeve surgery. In fact, he encourages it very much!! I've met with my PCP twice, and the surgeon once ( I go to him again on Wednesday). I'm getting a lot of encouragement from my family and friends so I feel GREAT about it. Actually, I wish all these prelim's were over and I could schedule the surgery...... but must be patient! I'm excited to join your group of "people like me" and hope to call you my buddies!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
