So I had the sleeve in August and hernia repair almost 3 weeks ago. It took a solid 3-5 days for the gas to go then you get more gas from not pooping. Take Miralax twice a day! Last surgery both gasses took 8 days to go away.

Walk, walk, walk! Lying on my left side helped me, or laying over the edge of the bed. Mine came in waves, starting day 2, getting better through day 5. But the left side trick would help me pass it almost every time... Feel better soon!

It took about 5 days for the gas pain to go away. Yes, it is very unpleasant but it is a rite of passage, so to speak. Walking is the single best way to get rid of the gas. I remember how relieving it was when I finally began to fart.

I just had my surgery last month, and let me tell you, the gas pains were the worst part of it. It took 3-4 days for it to go away. Just hang in there. Burp and fart as much as possible!

Kind of glad I clicked on this topic. Made me laugh, but mainly gives me ideas of what to expect post-op.

KateBruin do you mind if I ask, did you have the hernia before your procedure? What type was it and how did it affect you if at all? Reason I ask is because I have an umbilical hernia which was the reason I initially went to see the surgeon.

Be sure that you're eating slowly. When you drink, try not to suck in; you almost need to pour the Water in your mouth. I had the hiccups every time I drank the first and second days, but, once I started pouring the water in, that helped.

Sweetie That was a couple weeks ago, are you cleared for small pills yet? If so, there are several forms of GasEs pills, saw them at WalMaer yesterday.😝

I eat slowly but I’m going to try the pouring method lol and see if that helps thanks

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
