Any short sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Is there any 5 foot tall female who got the sleeve done? I am 5 foot fall and weigh 203 lb. most people see me and they say I do not need to get sleeved but, the BMI charts say other wise. I have not seen anyone at my height or my weight go into the surgery. So I’m wondering if there is anyone out there. Also I hear normally we (short 200lb) wouldn’t loose weight as fast and as much as everyone else does. Not sure why or is this true?? I have surgery on Thursday and All these questions are coming to mind.

Yess!!!!! I am 5 feet tall and currently 215 lbs. My BMI is 43 so yes I definitely more than qualify for the surgery. The reason people say this is because since they are taller, if they weighed what we do they would be at a lower BMI and closer to their goal. However, we still have the 80-90 lbs to lose as someone who is 5 feet tall has a normal BMI range of 94 lbs - 127 lbs. Can you imagine someone 5'6 at 94 lbs. They would look very ill. However, at our height it would be perfectly healthy.

I have yet to understand why we lose slower. We are just as far from our healthy BMI as anyone else. Just because the scale shows lower does NOT mean we are at a healthy weight. We are morbidly obese.

I know that weight loss will show a lot less on us. If someone 5'7 loses weight they have it more distributed on their body so they are more likely to have less inches on them. I don't know about you but I have a very short torso so 10-20 lbs even does not really reflect on me. I just don't have much room for the fat to be properly distributed!

I have somewhat of a long torso and well shaped even as a heavy girl it still holds its hour glass shape. I hold most of my weight on my legs, butt, and thighs, I don’t remember the last time I wore shorts. I just hardly see and 5 foot tall people on here and I would like to see how far they have gotten and how much they were able to loose.

I am 5ft8in and 323. I am young enough at heart that I have a pair of cut off bib overalls, if I were average sized. you might call them DaiseyI Dukes. Since,i am a hefty Hubba Bubba Honey I call mine Lulu Boggs and I do,not wear them to the grocery but I do garden in them at home. By next year,I do plan a pair of Bono Fide Daiseys --even if they are more Bermuda length . A girl does get to have an occasional dream, doesn't she?

I’m 4’10 and when I started the program I weighed 190. I had surgery last week & weighed 167 the day of surgery. I’m one week post op & have lost 8 pounds which is fine with me even though I see people losing way more on their first week of getting surgery.

I am 5'1! My weight on the day of surgery was around 233 I believe. Highest weight was 244. I had my sleeve surgery on 2/09/18 and am currently weighing 190. I think I am losing at a decent speed.

Thanks for this, I'm 4"11 and have been wondering the same thing. I'm at 272 so my BMI is 55. So yeah, definitely not in a healthy range though people don't see it. I'm ok with losing slower though. Hopefully, it will give my skin some time to adjust....

Good morning! I’m 5”1’ with a 220 preop weight. I’m 6 days post surgery and down to 211 as of this morning. The only issue I had at the hospital was drain placement, being so short they had to adjust it after the fact. Once I was able to get home (2 days post op) I’ve been feeling so much better. Follow up and drain/suture removal on Friday!!

My sister is 5ft even! She was sleeved 4 years ago...she weighed more than you (I don’t remember how much)...she got down to about 112 (which she looked WAY too thin) and has put some weight back on...she’s holding steady at 135 and she looks great at that weight!!

5'1" here as well, and at 246.6 currently my pre-surgery BMI is 47. I know people see me as fat, but probably not "obese". Heck even I don't really see that which is why it took me so long to even consider surgery as an option - that and a bit of denial thrown in as well.

I haven't heard that we would lose more slowly and my surgeon certainly didn't say anything to that affect. I would say though that there are a lot of factors that contribute to how fast and how much anyone loses - following a strictly healthy diet, amount of exercise, and just plain genetics all factor in.

That is great!! My ideal weight is around 140-135 but if it’s less than that it’ll be good too although I’m ready to hear all the “ you look way too skinny “ lol but I’m also ok with losing weight slower. We will see what’s in store for me.

I'm 5'1" and was 201 pounds. I had surgery last Monday and am down 15 pounds total so far! Everything is going well so far. I understand what you're saying about people not thinking you need surgery, but most of the people I've told have been supportive. I chose to do this to reduce my risk of breast cancer, and to just feel better in general, so I just stay focused on that. Good luck with your surgery! Love the term "short sleever" too!

I am 5'1 and weighed 245 on surgery date. i lost 90 lbs in about 6 months or so ... then another 40 by about a year -14 months out. I dont know if it took longer than most, but I was okay with the progress. Im 8 years out and have kept it off (now at 115) - maybe losing a little slower isnt a bad thing! Good luck to everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
