Hiccurps...burccups?

Recommended Posts

Since surgery on Tuesday I’ve been having these weird things I can only describe as a cross between a hiccup and a burp. I get them a few times each hour, but not in a row like hiccups. And I’m not releasing any gas with them like you would a burp. All I know is that they’re very uncomfortable and I’d love to hear if anyone else has dealt with these and any suggestions for getting rid of the suckers.

oh goody @aussielady I have on of those already. Did you know they are coded by color. Mine is Green, I'll have to ask @Manpower he is very gym and PT literate, he'll know the answer. Girls-- a little Grandma trick. Raise. your right arm,up, okay? Now put it over top and reach for your left ear. Now while its up there try belching, sometimes just that much movement will, help. Try it sitting down if that doesn't work stand up when you do it. Just, might give you some relief . If not at so,ithen you've lost nothing but a couple minutes of your time.😝 Incidently I'm very proud of you both, you came through it relatively unscathed. You both deserve a big smile, unfortunately all I have is an emoji one😝👍👌

Hicburps, LOL! I had them even pre-surgery. They're more or less a side effect of getting the gall bladder removed which happened to me in 2002.

I haven't had a case of them since surgery, but in my family we call them hic-a-burps. (Hiccuburps? Not sure how I'd spell it, actually.)

That is exactly what my Mom did after her surgery when she was full. Sometimes the hiccup came with a loud burp and other times just the hiccup with a small gagging sound. She had the RNY back in the 90's. This why I am going to be super careful eating out after my surgery. I don't want to be the loud burp in the restaurant!

Hahahaha! I love the advice and the encouragement Frustr8. And thank you all for the suggestions! They’ve seemed to lesson a little so hopefully it’s just some weird, temporary healing thing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
