I think the place to look for answers is your weight loss surgery center--make sure they accept Medicare and see what questions they are willing to answer. Or call a couple different centers if you haven't decided on where you want to go yet. My clinic put me through to their insurance coordinator. That person might also be able to give you a Medicare number to call so that you can call them and ask some questions. (Rather than the number on back of the card, where you get people reading the Medicare book back to you, no matter how many "supervisors" you are supposedly talking to.)

I have Medicare and my clinic says they usually approve everything without a problem, as long as you have met their criteria. One of their criteria is 6 months of consecutive, "successful" appointments with a Dietitian. This is a requirement of my surgery center anyway, so no big deal. But Medicare will not pay for those appointments. My center knocks the price waaaay down so it's affordable. Those are the types of things I would want to know in advance, because otherwise when I got my explanation of benefits from Medicare saying I owed over $200 for one visit, I would have freaked out.

mine in Ohio Medicare, remainer by QMB Medicaid. QMB means Qualified Medicare Benificiary. One of few perks of being born in the 40s, you are considered old as dirt, little do they realize ,i'm still younger than springtime🌈 inside. Just you wait until this fat old tired cacoon 🐛crumbles and the new improved butterfly🐝 emerges. The real,me has been trapped inside too many years, I'm going,to unfold my pretty butterfly wings and fly,,baby, fly! Yes some butterflies live, only a short time, that's okay, I'll be colorful and lovely as long as I can. Not flying close to the🐸 bullfrogs of bad health, doubt and sorrow, they will never have the chance to grab me again! World🌏 just watch me fly!🐝

Medicare auto approves you if you meet all of the requirements. The requirements can be found in document NCD 100.1 which is a National Coverage Determination. You can find it at the following link: https://www.cms.gov/medicare-coverage-database/details/ncd-details.aspx?NCDid=57&KeyWord=bariatric+surgery&KeyWordLookUp=Title&KeyWordSearchType=And& CMS NCD on bariatric surgery

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
