It’s a hospital setting...

Meaning I won’t be doing all the nursing home duties or rehab/long term care facilities. But I will be on my feet a lot more

Do you have an HR person? You can file for FMLA or Family/Medical leave...By law your company cannot fire you during that time and your job position has to remain for you by the time you return. My neighbor had her surgery and she took 4 weeks. You never know how you will feel. Sometime going back to soon is not always the best.
I haven't had my surgery but Im going to ask for 3-4 weeks. I dont want to go back to work and find out a week back in that I need to take more time off cause its im in pain or suffering from nausea, Migraines, soreness, etc...If im 110% ready, strong physically/mentally before 3-4 weeks, ill go back in early....

There is. I did inquire about time off and because it’s a union position they told me that someone from the union would be able to help me further once I get my surgery date?

If you’re not lifting you should be ok after 5-7 days

I think I am going to take 3 weeks, and return earlier if I feel up to it. I have a desk job in theory, but do a lot of bustling around. However my biggest hesitation is my commute. I am in the car around 2 hours each way. Doesn't sound insanely comfortable right after surgery. I will be using STD coupled with PTO to get 100% pay. So 48 hours of PTO + my 60% STD benefits.

2 hours is an insane commute, surgery notwithstanding. How do you manage!?

audiobooks my friend. A rather large number of audiobooks (much to my husband's dismay!) I also talk on the phone with other commuter friends of mine :) But I won't lie, it SUCKS. I really really really hate my commute. But Boston is where the $$ is.

Working in a hospital, anything goes as I know you can imagine and all the work (in my opinion) can be physically exhausting. I practice physical therapy but work in a skilled nursing facility.

I want to take 3.5 weeks off but I know because of my job, the doc is going to want me to take more. I filed FMLA papers but also had my HR director give me a return to work early paper that my doc can sign if I am out for more than 4 weeks but can return at any time with docs orders.

When I had this horrible long 1.5 commute, I would listen to paranormal podcasts and audiobooks. I learned listening to radio was way to boring as songs were repeated so many damn times. My butt and back would hurt, that I'd often found myself leaning on one butt cheek to the other in stand still traffic. lol....Anyhow, listening to podcasts were my jam!!! Sometimes I'd get into it and miss my exit...hahahaha

I had a sleeve and hernia repair on 4/12 and came back to work on 4/16. However, I have a desk job.

I took 2.5 weeks off (surgery was on a Wednesday), but I should have taken another week. I am 53, and I do think age factors in on this decision.

I had the VSG on Monday and went back to work on Wednesday. I work from home though and have taken breaks as needed. I have no energy on this clear diet and it has been a struggle. I am hoping that when I am on a full liquid diet next week, with more calories and Protein, I will feel a little more normal.

Age: 37
Height: 5’6
BMI: 37
VSG scheduled for 4/16/18
GW: 160

You will definitely have more energy when you go to full liquid diet. I have been really tired this week but today seems better. Best wishes to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
