Stuck for 2 days??

Recommended Posts

Could something actually be stuck for 2 days? I would think it would have been broken down by now. I've had this horrible "golf ball" feeling since sunday night, and I can't even remember what the hell I ate! I just feel this terrible pressure in my chest, hurts when I take a deep breath. I've only been banded for 4 weeks, is this what STUCK feels like? I haven't PB'd, or slimed or vomited, doesn't feel like anything is trying to come up, but this ache under my sternum is making me nuts!! I think I'm going to put myself back on liquids for a couple of days and see if I can get rid of this pressure.

Did I really sign up for this kind of discomfort?!!???!!! What was I thinking???:)

First off have you called your doc ?Second after only 4 weeks are you suppose to be eating anything ? If you have not called your doc I would.

NOW It MIGHT Be gas ? But Might not . I would call your doc ASAP .

I've sent an email to my doc's office, he's usually very good about getting back to me quickly so hopefully I'll have a reply from him by morning.

I've only been eating mushy stuff, so I don't know what's up but this is frustrating because I have been feeling so great ever since surgery.

you dont remember what it was you ate that got you feeling stuck to begin with ? Maybe it was something that you cant tolerate ? I for instance can not tolerate eggs . They get stuck every time .

Do you have any Gas X ? Maybe try some Gas X ??? Just a thought , I hope your doc replys by morning , if not Call him

Could it be reflux issues?

I have to take Prilosec everyday or I get that type of feeling but it's more in my throat. It's been going on since before I was banded. I was surprised to be diagnosed with GERD during my pre-op testing.<O:p</O:p<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

You might have eaten something that the band didn't like and then your stomach and esophogus might have became irritated and swelled up. I am not sure if things can just sit there for 2 days with out being digested, a more likely explaination is irritation.

I remember having that feeling early on too. It took me about 3 months to figure out how LITTLE we really need to eat at a time. Once I started measuring food and really eating only 1/2 cup at a time, I had no more discomfort (it took a couple of days for the irritation to subside).

This might not be your issue at all, but I thought I'd share in case it is. It's uncanny how little food it takes to be satisfied and you'll feel so much better when you stay under the discomfort level.

Definately sounds like an inflammatory issue - to me. Just do liquids for the next day or so; see if that helps. And ice pops! sugar free, of course.

Thanks for the input everyone! I heard from my doc and he agreed with my going on liquids for a couple of days, said it may just be swelling. I started liquids last night and I feel 100% better today. YAY!!!!!

I was going to say that it sounds like the typical discomfort you feel right after surgery. I attribute that golfball to swelling. That particular discomfort subsides pretty much after the first 3 weeks, but you may have really irritated your gut and it swelled again. This is not time to put your system through the wringer. Treat it like a brand new baby learning how to eat from scratch.

Jill, this is happening to me now!! I ate lunch yesterday around 2:30 and although it stuck a LITTLE, I feel SORE when I breathe in, and have that "in my throat" feeling. I tossed and turned all night. Did it finally go away? I'm afraid the band is slipped or something

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
