NanoQ 3 Posted April 11, 2018 My RNY was 10/30/17. I have had extreme nausea, vomiting and wound up on TPN. My gastrin levels were 400 (normal is<100), have ulcers(they are healing). The biggest problem though the emotional ups and downs! I have very little patience. Pre op I was very patient and tended to think before I opened my mouth. Now I am easily insulted, quicker to anger and I speak re-actively. I feel like I am pre-menstrual all the time. It has been a rough post op course but things are sloooooowly getting better. Hope to be off Tpn soon. Anyone else have these issues? I feel caught between some people being angry with me and others going " It's ok". I need to fix this. My behavior is my resposibility. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome! 1 2 Mattymatt, FluffyChix and Frustr8 reacted to this
Sosewsue61 3,185 Posted April 11, 2018 So sorry you have had these complications. I hope you find relief soon. Is the ulcer in the unused stomach portion or the pouch or both? Maybe try yoga or meditation class, get a massage. Are you allowed oral medication? Short term antidepressants maybe - like Wellbutrin? 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
Road Runner 66 Posted April 11, 2018 I had a leak which led to another operation, 29 days in the hospital, and TPN. It’s been horrible! I went on Wellbutrin to help, and it’s taken the edge off. The TPN really made me sick, nausea and constant diarrhea. I also gained 8 pounds in the hospital. I felt much better when it finally worked itself out of my system. Now I only take my nausea meds 2-3 times a week, a huge improvement for me. Im so sorry you are going thru this, but it will work itself out, and you will be fabulous afterwards!! 1 1 1 FluffyChix, Frustr8 and Sosewsue61 reacted to this
FluffyChix 17,415 Posted April 11, 2018 Gosh so sorry to hear about your complications! ((hugs)) I can't EVEN imagine your situation or @Road Runner's situation. I'm just grateful y'all are on your way to healthy. But as for being short tempered...OMG! I am sooooo easily-irritated. It's a new thing for me too. I used to be just an everyday run of the mill asshat. Now it's like at flashpoint. And I come back with sarcasm or snapping. I'm gonna ask my RD about this at our next meeting. But dang. to hear someone else is experiencing this. I'm not depressed--rather the opposite--I have high hopes for the future and present. But I can see in your situation that you sure would or could be dealing with that as you heal! ((hang in there)) 2 Sosewsue61 and Frustr8 reacted to this

I have some understanding because the first 4 weeks post-op were hell for me. I had RNY on March 12 and it wasn't until last Monday, April 9th, that I began to start feeling like myself again. I felt quick to anger/impatience and there were times when I would just break down and cry. It took a little medical detective work, but between my doctors, we figured out that I wasn't absorbing the anti-depressant effectively. The psychiatrist changed the form of my medicine to a salt-tab style which just dissolves under the tongue. Then I realized I was mistakenly eating some deli meat and cheese thinking that it would count as pureed. My stomach revolted and I had no idea why. Once I learned that mistake and started eating "allowed" pureed food, well I instantly started feeling better. 2 Frustr8 and jacky0218 reacted to this
SleeveinIL 386 Posted April 11, 2018 I have been going to group and one suggestion was to ground yourself before you speak or react. Some suggested pressing your toes into towards the ground and touching your legs or hugging yourself to recenter before responding. Not sure if it will help, but offering as an alternative. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
NanoQ 3 Posted June 27, 2018 Thank you everyone for your comments and support. I have been struggling still. I am going to a group to help with the emotional roller coaster ride. It has helped that aspect of things. I have started another topic spot for my continuing issues. i would love input on m current situation as well. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
