Should I get it out?

It’s hard to believe but I’ve have my lap band for 10 years this month! I began to have burping (loud) and often in the past 4 years. Top of esophagus became loose. (Normal). I’m often suffering from gas pains especially when I eat salmon, cale, broccholi, omlettes, eggs, raw veggies, quinoa, Pasta, chicken and vomiting ......no problems though with Soups, fried foods, icecream, candy. Get the picture. I lost a total of 40lbs. And stayed there. I am completed unfilled but still suffer almost daily with stomach pain and gas. I am 59 years old and pass the hungry hormonal years.

Does anyone know how much weight is typically gained after removal?

Is the proceedure risky?

thank you🙏

A lot of people have reported on these boards significant gaining after having band removed (though theirs was usually at 5 years or less) - more general lap-band forums might report better band-removal stats though?

Talk with your medical advisers, but as you are still 36 pounds from goal, would you consider a revision to gastric sleeve with the removal of the band? (seems to be common for both procedures to be performed at the same time as long as there isn't damage from band slippage). Once you recover you should find eating healthy foods a lot more pleasant than with the band, and the hormonal benefits of the op to help with hunger and metabolism?

My mum wanted me to consider gastric banding 15+ years ago but when I heard/read about the frequency of vomiting and difficulty with some healthy foods like salads (and hadn't started having kids with my husband yet) I was not at all convinced it would be a good option for me. Now at 38 with 2 kids (and no more happening ;) ) I'm having a gastric sleeve 2nd May and can't wait.

Hello!!! I just had my band removed 6 months ago and I have gained EVERYTHIBG BACK plus and additional 15 pounds on top of that. Total of 50 pounds. I am scheduled for the sleeve in a couple of weeks. Taking is out was nothing like putting it in. After I removed the band I was driving in mild discomfort day #2 post op and fully back to activities 5 days later. It was a breeze compared to the horrible pain I had when I put the band in. However this all depends how much scar tissue the surgeon has to remove. I had very little. Hope this helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
