No menstruation cycle

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done august 29, 2017, and my menstruation cycle was normal till january. Then poof it was gone, no more, not even spotting. Now i am 46, did i go thru menopause and not even notice. Or is this just the beginning of menopause because all 3 of my older sisters went thru it in their 40's. Went to DR today to have a full woman's well check to make sure. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Now it will be a few days for blood test results come back, and DR did say that a big weight loss will do the same thing. I have lost 70lbs in 8 months, but if thats the case will my cycle return then? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Oh I envy you[emoji68] if you succeeded at a smooth sleek menopause. Mine was much like my weight loss journey has been , a bumpy thumpsy up and down journey. Could not understand how I could have hot flashes, night sweats, and still, gush like a Texas oil well each and every month! So glad my lady parts finally went into permanent slumber on their own.[emoji70][emoji106]

Well I had those results about 10 months ago way before surgery. Surgery date was March 22, 2018 and bam what do you know a month later I had a menstrual cycle. Very heavy and lasted over 7 days. Now I have to make a return trip to see my ob-gyn

Wow, didnt think you could have a cycle after post-menopause. Maybe that does have something to do with the weight loss. Would love to know what your Dr says come your appt. Please let me know😉

“Menopause” is defined as a year without a period. So yeah 8 months then a period, totally possible!

I was peri menopausal for years starting around 40! I would go for 3 months then 6 months then back to every month. Then 10 months and then a period. For years it was like that! I stopped paying attention so I really don’t even know when it finally was done. Sometime in the year before VSG because they asked and I said “oh I dunno but less than a year.” And never had one post op.

So glad Mother Nature and Father Time helped me bury Aunt Flo. It had been 47 years of her monthly visits and I was happy the old biddy died. Like, most relatives she had a habit of showing up at the most inconvenient time and often overstayed her welcome. Nobody came to her funeral but me because my gynecologist would not help me murder her prematurely. RIP Aunt Flo👹--far far away from me!....Amen

I'm not even gonna talk about my crazy menstrual weirdness....except to say to anyone in their 40's....I feel your pain.

peri/menopaus sucks! (but being done with the period monster would be really really nice...here's hoping there's not too long to go)

I went about 3 months with no period after my surgery and out of he blue.....bam. a non stop period for almost two months hat was so heavy that my hair started falling out and I had to go to the emergency room for a blood transfusion. I’m 49 ( was 48 when all of this was going on) and my doctor said that sometimes surgery will screw your cycles up for a while then come back. I finally ended up going on hormones to start an early menopause. If you truly are post menopausal...consider yourself super duper lucky that you didn’t end up having to go through all of the menopause ups and down like so many women do!

I did not go thru 12 months without a cycle, i understand that when you do it is called post-menopause as well. That is why i did not understand how i was at only 3months and absolutely no signs of pre or menopause at all. My dr. told me according to my blood test results my hormone levels were showing post-menopause. Now i was completely surprised and not understanding how that was possible, but it is. I was just one of the few who did not have symptoms or irregular cycles like most woman do going thru the menopause changes. As stated earlier, thought it was because weight loss or pre-menopause, that's why i asked for help wondering if this had happened to anyone else. Thank you for everyones replies, much appreciated.

I was like clockwork before my 28 Feb surgery. Two months and counting and no period either. Going to call my GYN on Monday to make an appointment to see what's going on. I turned 50 in Feb so maybe it is menopause.

I'm 38 and suffer with very heavy painful periods. I was due about 23 April but it never arrived (I assume because I was almost 2 weeks into VLCD at that stage) and I've been expecting it "any time now" since. No sign yet, even after being sleeved 2nd May. Although hubby had the snip 18 months ago I even did a pregnancy test to be totally sure not pregnant before surgery day!

Hearing about how heavily period hit post surgery, I'm kinda hoping aunt Flo has lost my address and just never returns!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
