Help! Stuck in a rut!

Recommended Posts

I have been doing body beast and walking.. body beast is 6 days a week.. I walk maybe 3 or 4 days of those 6.. my surgeon told me at my last appt a few weeks ago that since I am lifting weights to drink an extra Protein Shake a day before/after my workout to aid in the muscle recovery. I’m going to call the nutritionist tomorrow and send him my food and exercise logs and see what he thinks I need to be doing.

That's a good idea!

I am drinking 2 a day to get my Protein up and because I lift weights and do cardio. I try to get it by food but I physically can not eat a lot of food without getting to the point of vomiting.. the only vegetables I can eat without getting sick are green Beans. Plus my hair is falling out and my surgeon told me to add another shake to help get my protein over 100g a day

Makes sense. I can't even imagine doing anything with "Beast" in it at my old weight of 304lbs. I agree, your RD and doc are the best people to lean on with this journey!

Congrats on your progress.

Hellz@fluffychix, 15 minutes on the elliptical was enough for me. Beast mode eventually but not now.

I think I'll try something big when I get to goal weight. For now, it's just the simple task of work out and eat right.

Mattymatt and fluffychix, I feel like you guys are making fun of me or mocking me.. body beast isn’t THAT hard... yes, there are some things I still can’t do at 100% but I am trying and lifting the weights to help with toning and help with excess skin. I work out and eat right.. so please if you are going to be bullies go somewhere else because I don’t need to be beat down anymore than I already am. Thought this was a place to come for support and not get made fun of when simply asking for help!!!!! And so what if I drink a Protein Shake or 2 a day when I have to get my Protein and calories in without resulting to foods that are bad for you. So if you’re going to continue to make fun of me and bash me, please get off my thread.

I'm sorry! Not making fun of you in the slightest! I want to bow to you and say , I'm not worthy! Cuz no way can I do it even now! The word beast in the program tickled me and scared me more than a little.

I'm not mocking you at all. I'm impressed. I can barely manage 15 minutes on am elliptical and you are killing it.

Me too! I keep thinking I'm going to increase my time... nope. Hasn't happened yet. I do 15 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes of lifting. This is my beast mode.

I was shocked that today I managed 30 minutes. I spaced out and finally looked down and the clock read 28 minutes. Two more and I got off. Doubled the goal! :D

That's great!!! I hope I get there soon. I know if this really is a stall, I'll be stepping up my game!

If you choose to step up your game, just don't overdo it and make yourself feel miserable. I have to keep reminding myself that Rome wasn't built in a day and to keep my expectations and goals reasonable.

I agree! I don't want to dread going to the gym. I've made it a 5 day a week staple in my routine. I don't want any excuses not to go.

That's a good way to go about it. I am aiming to make LA Fitness a 7 day a week adventure. IT's going to be a daily habit.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
