Good luck on your journey!! I had my consultation on 12/1/17 and I have been scheduled for Gastric Sleeve surgery on April 25th, so that gives you an idea of how long the process is. If I can give any advice it would be to not give up! The process can be both frustrating and stressful especially dealing with insurance companies, but it's such a relief once you get that final approval!

I started the process in October of last year but then I had to hold off due to a change in my insurance. I have BCBS IL and they didn't require me to do a nutritionist appointments but my surgeon had me do 4. I had to see her 2x a month, so it only took me 2 months to finish the requirements. I'm currently on a month pre-op diet. Can't wait to be post-op!

I have my first consultation appointment on April 20th and I’m nervous but excited! Anyone just starting the process!?

Good luck! The first appointment can seem overwhelming with all of the pre op clearances and the time it will take to get to surgery.. But it's really not that bad. And once you're near the end it feels like it flew by! I started in September of 2017, my surgery is in 2 days, April 11th.

Take a deep breath before you go in. Still okay? That's good! Be positive, be up beat and cheerful, be yourself. They may ask why do you want bariatric surgery? Everybody has their reasons, for me and my own because I am 72 an untraditional age. Arthritis since 25, 2 knee replacements, GERD another name for reoccurant heartburn, multiple diet attempts, nothing kept it off even if I lost a little, sleep apnea(many overweight people do) but my bottom line was I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired and the thought of surgery scares me less than the thought of continuing as I am. The surgeon probably, will ask questions like Do you snack a lot? They may explain the pluses and minuses of each type of most surgeries, most popular are the vertical sleeve gastrectomy, RnY bypass, some do ESG which is done endoscopical with a tube down into your stomach then interior stitching to fold your stomach and reduce its size. A few will install an OberA balloon into your stomach, that they only leave that in 6 months, still costs nearly as much as the other surgeries and I would think of limited benefits. A very few surgeon's do Duodenal Switch, a more radical surgery, or Single Anastomosis bypass or some others I'm not as familiar with. Most surgeries are done laprascopicaly, with 5- 7 small slits in your tummy which is a lot easier on you than the Open variety once done. You'll heal quicker and have less pain with the small slit method. Your surgeon will probably make his or her suggestion on what they feel would be the best one. It is your choice and your body but do listen to their professional opinion, they have been in the business and truly can give a valuable opinion. Either they or your insurance may have multiple consultations for several different things, do them for they are of benefit to you and ensure you are in the best emotional and physical shape before surgery. And good luck, it is at once scary and thrilling to go through the different stages, but you will make it there and the rewards will be many![emoji14][emoji304][emoji13]

Good luck at your first appointment! We are starting this journey around the same time! My initial consult is on the 27th of April. I can’t wait but I’m super nervous. For some reason, I keep feeling like they are going to slam the door in my face but I have no reason to think that. Can’t wait to hear how your consult goes!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
