Surgery is Tuesday!! I'm looking forward to being on the losers bench, But totally freaking! How long does it take for the staple line to heal? I'm so afraid of damaging it or creating a leak or it not healing properly. I bought an 4oz and 8oz baby bottle to use to track my liquid intake since I'll still be on the liquids for a couple weeks after. I pray everything goes good. Surgeries make me incredibly nervous so feel free to send me all your good vibes!!

My surgery was done 6 weeks ago. It was done with a scope. I had 6 small incisions which are healed now. The stapled stomach inside takes 6 weeks to heal. Please don't worry. It will be fine. Try not to over-think things.

Don't tie, yourself in "nots". don't think any ,bad thoughts or worry. Relax these few days, get up the morning of surgery in a peaceful state, you've worked hard to make it to this day, you can trust your surgical procedure team to take good care, granted they do a lot of surgery but each patient is unique and special. Among the varied things I've done in my lifetime, I was in healthcare for 25 years. I know what I speak of, on that day you are special, the STAR of the show. They will do their level best to make it a good experience, you, want to be safe and healthy, well they want that too. They will take as good a care of you as if you were a family member, maybe better. I have some rotten relatives on my late Daddy's side of the family, I may be the best of that crop. There's an old saying "Of all my relatives, I like me best!" Theres always one or two rotten or misshapened apples on the family tree, mine were 1st cousins. But I digress, we were discussing you and surgery. Please, believe me it will be so good.

You're going to climb on that bed, soon you'll doze off and when you wake you'll be starting on your new life. Might be a little uncomfortable in the tummy area but remember you're newly renovated, your gastric area got its spring cleaning. Soon you'll be up walking, sipping and smiling. You've done it kid and your bright new life is starting. And when you feel a little better you'll realize it for the great thing it is. And I'll be so envious because I want to be there too. My day is going to come, the fact I don't know the exact, day doesn't bother me , I know it is coming and you'll be able to tell me,"it's okay" too. Now a big , it's going to be okay!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
