Donating Plasma Post Gastric Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Well, most frown upon donating plasma (my family) but the process is nothing like what I thought it'd be. The center I went to which is near where I live was very much the opposite of what I thought it'd be. I had the initial interview questions etc. it's a 2-hour process and not everyone is willing to wait what have you. The following visits are easy and take an hour. At any rate, I was told that because of the sleeve surgery that I'd be able to donate on November 1, 2018, on the dot. So, that is what I intend to do. It's easy money, and it helps those that need meds from the plasma. 20 for the first visit, 40 for the second, and 60 for the 3rd and so on.

Where I live you can't "sell" bodily tissue and that includes blood components. Therefore we cannot get cash. Make sure you are selling and that its legal where you live.

I was deferred for plasma, platelets, and double red units because of asthma but I was a prominent whole blood donor before! Make sure you stay on top of everything because it will wear you out!

Oh, it's legit very clean place, and it's not sold per say you are compensated for your donation. And yes they do have suggestions for staying on top of things ie. first-time doner checklist, keeping healthy for the best donations, return doner checklist. You need two forms of ID and proof of your current residence in the past 30 days. There is a bible long list as to who cannot donate people with tattoos etc. anywho yes thanks for the response.

I know this is an older post, but I would like to update what happened to me today. I had my gastric sleeve on October 3rd and have been cleared by my doctor for normal diet and normal activities, but the plasma center I went to today has told me I cannot donate for 12 months post-op. That really sticks a thorn in any holiday shopping I was hoping to do. I am going to be looking for another plasma center to see if I get the same story.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
